Clase was charged with a blown save against the Reds on Saturday. He pitched one inning and gave up an unearned run on three hits without collecting any walks or strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Clase could have gotten out of the inning without allowing a baserunner, but a two-out error by first baseman Josh Naylor was followed by three straight Reds singles to tie the score. It was a tough-luck first blown save for the right-hander, who still hasn't given up an earned run this season. He's allowed an unearned run in each of his past three save opportunities, however, and it remains to be seen if he'll be able to hold off fellow fireballer James Karinchak for the ninth-inning role.

Clase recorded his third save of the season Thursday against the White Sox. He gave up one run on one hit while striking out one during the lone inning he pitched.
EDGE Analysis
Clase started the season on a dominant note with three perfect outings, but now he has allowed baserunners in each of his last three appearances while giving up runs in his last two. He is still 3-for-3 in save opportunities, but he seems to be trending in the wrong direction after a sizzling beginning to the campaign.

Clase (1-1) was charged with the loss Monday after allowing one unearned run on one hit and one walk in one-third of an inning.
EDGE Analysis
First baseman Yu Chang fielded what looked like a potential double-play ball and hit the runner at second base with the throw, allowing the winning run to score for the White Sox. Clase created the traffic on the basepaths with an infield hit allowed and a free pass, but the fireballing righty has separated himself with his performance early and this shouldn't affect his standing in the bullpen hierarchy.

Clase notched his second save of the season Sunday against the Tigers. He allowed one hit and one walk while fanning one during his lone inning of work.
EDGE Analysis
Clase recorded two saves during the weekend series against the Tigers and has yet to allow a run this season, though this was the first time he allowed baserunners in four outings. The right-hander didn't rattle despite having runners in first and second with one out, and he closed things out with a double play after inducing Nomar Mazara to ground out. Clase has gone 2-for-2 in save opportunities this season and has started the year on a dominant note.

Clase struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Friday to pick up his first save of the season in a 4-1 win over the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander simply overpowered the heart of Detroit's order, tossing 11 of 14 pitches for strikes and fanning Jeimer Candelario and Nomar Mazara. Clase has a 0.00 ERA and 5:0 K:BB through his first three appearances (three innings) of 2021, and while Cleveland has deployed a committee in the ninth inning so far, Clase has done nothing to remove himself from the high-leverage mix.

Clase (1-0) earned the win while pitching a scoreless inning with two strikeouts Wednesday against the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
Clase pitched the eighth inning and looked absolutely dominant, tossing 10 of his 15 pitches for strikes and fanning two of the three batters he faced -- none other than Salvador Perez and Jorge Soler. Clase has recorded two scoreless outings to begin the season.

Cleveland will use a committee of Clase, James Karinchak and Nick Wittgren for save chances this season, manager Terry Francona told MLB.com.
EDGE Analysis
Clase had a 4.32 ERA this spring with 11 strikeouts and no walks in 8.1 innings. Karinchak entered spring as the leading candidate for the closer role, but struggled with a 6.52 ERA and ten walks in 9.2 innings. Wittgren looked sharp with a 1.08 ERA and nine strikeouts in 8.1 innings. It sounds like the closer situation could be in flux early in the season.

Cleveland is looking at Clase as an impact reliever who could pitch in the late innings this season, Terry Pluto of Cleveland.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Pluto speculates that Clase, whose cutter has touched 99 mph this spring, could work in the seventh and eighth innings this season. Clase's goal is to be the team's closer, per Zack Meisel of The Athletic. Manager Terry Francona has already suggested that James Karinchak could be used to get outs at the highest-leverage moments of the game, even if that happens prior to the ninth inning, so it could be any of Clase, Nick Wittgren, Phil Maton or Blake Parker who ends up with the save in those instances.

Clase (suspension) was reinstated from the restricted list Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Clase was handed an 80-game suspension in May after testing positive for the PED Boldenone. The suspension was revised to cover the entirety of the 60-game season, and he'll be available for spring training and the 2021 season after completing his sentence. The 22-year-old figures to slot into a fairly high-leverage role with Cleveland next season after recording one save and four holds while posting a 2.31 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 23.1 innings with the Rangers in 2019.

Clase's suspension will be completed if MLB plays an entire 60-game season in 2020, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Clase was initially slated to serve an 80-game suspension after testing positive for the PED Boldenone, but the suspension won't carry over to 2021 if the league plays their entire 60-game regular season. If the season gets interrupted, negotiations would likely need to reopen in order to determine a timetable for the suspension.
