Alvarez went 1-for-4 with a walk, three runs scored and an RBI in Wednesday's extra-inning win over the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
His final trip home delivered the winning run; after striking out to end the ninth inning, the 30-year-old rookie began the 10th at second base under MLB's new extra-inning rules and came around on Magneuris Sierra's single to right field. Alvarez is now hitting .211 (4-for-19) through his first six big-league games.

Alvarez was among the 17 players added to the Marlins' roster prior to Tuesday's game against the Orioles, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Alvarez has a tremendously interesting back story - he was good enough in high school to earn a baseball scholarship, but after one year fully committed to speed skating, where he was good enough to joining the U.S. Olympic speed skating team, where he earned a silver medal in 2014. He very nearly won a job out of summer camp, and now will serve as Jonathan Villar's backup at shortstop.

Alvarez will join the Marlins' 30-man roster ahead of Tuesday's game against the Orioles, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Alvarez made a strong case to make the major-league roster for Opening Day, but he instead started the year at the team's alternate training site. He'll be an option at shortstop for the Marlins while Miguel Rojas (illness) recovers from COVID-19. The 30-year-old hasn't appeared in the majors yet but hit .324/.408/.559 with 12 home runs and 12 stolen bases in the minors last season.

Alvarez is making a strong push for a spot on the 30-man roster, Jordan McPherson of The Miami Herald reports. "I like the kid," manager Don Mattingly said earlier this week. "I think he's got a chance to help us depending on what happens during this this camp."
EDGE Analysis
The 30-year-old has yet to make his big-league debut, but Alvarez is no stranger to competing at the highest levels athletically, having won a silver medal in speed skating at the 2014 Olympics. As a switch hitter with wheels and plenty of defensive versatility -- he saw time at second base, third base, shortstop and left field last season for Triple-A New Orleans -- he could be a useful bench player for the Marlins, but the club already has a player with a similar profile in Jon Berti, and Miami would also need to find room for Alvarez on the 40-man roster if he does earn a spot.
