The White Sox will not call up Cease as a replacement for the injured Carlos Rodon (elbow), Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The White Sox will have Dylan Covey fill Rodon's spot in the rotation for now and may consider options outside the organization, but the club does not want rush its top-ranked pitching prospect. Cease is 2-1 with a 3.33 ERA and 30:7 K:BB over five starts spanning 24.1 innings at Triple-A Charlotte.

Cease limited Triple-A Gwinnett to two runs over six innings while striking out a career-high 11 for Charlotte in a 4-2 loss Tuesday. He gave up five hits and one walk in the outing.
EDGE Analysis
Cease opened the campaign with back-to-back starts of five shutout innings, but had been charged with 11 runs (seven earned) over his subsequent two turns. The right-hander ended the rough spell with a brilliant showing Tuesday, which included three perfect innings to lead off the start. The White Sox will probably want to see Cease string together a few more quality performances in a row before giving him his first big-league callup at some point this summer.

Cease (2-0) allowed two hits and one walk while striking out four over five scoreless innings for Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday against Indianapolis.
EDGE Analysis
Cease's transition to Triple-A ball as been a smooth one. The right-hander has struck out nine and walked one over 10 scoreless innings.

Cease was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte.
EDGE Analysis
This was inevitable, as Cease only logged 52.1 innings at Double-A and zero innings at Triple-A. He is Chicago's best healthy pitching prospect, and is expected to debut in the majors sometime this summer if he stays healthy.

Cease will begin the 2019 season at Triple-A Charlotte, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
With Michael Kopech sidelined by Tommy John elbow surgery, Cease becomes the starter prospect most likely to make an impact at the major-league level in 2019. The right-hander exhibited no dropoff moving from High-A to Double-A last year, and if he remains on that trajectory, pitching in Chicago after the All-Star break is a real possibility.

Cease was added to the 40-man roster Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The White Sox have effectively protected Cease from the Rule 5 draft by placing him on the 40-man roster. He was named the Minor-League Pitcher of the Year by MLB Pipeline following an impressive showing across stops at High-A Winston-Salem and Double-A Birmingham in 2018 (2.40 ERA with 160 strikeouts over 123 frames).

Cease was named minor-league Pitcher of the Year by MLB Pipeline, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cease, 22, went 12-2 with a 2.40 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 124 innings between High-A Winston-Salem and Double-A Birmingham. The right-hander ranked fourth among minor-league starters in wins, fourth in strikeout rate (32.5%), sixth in batting average allowed (.189) and 12th in strikeouts (160). ''We could not be more pleased with his development,'' general manager Rick Hahn said. ''Not only did Dylan take the ball every fifth day and answer the bell every time when we wanted him to start, but he dominated and seemingly got a little bit stronger as the season went on.'' Hahn alluded to Cease's dominant nine-start run to close out his season at Birmingham, going 3-0 with a 0.94 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 13.4 K/9.

The White Sox decided to shut down Cease for 2018 to limit his innings, James Fegan of The Athletic Chicago reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cease threw a career high 124 innings between High-A Winston-Salem and Double-A Birmingham -- his previous career mark was 93.1 innings -- this season, so the White Sox will remain cautious. The 22-year-old finished with a 2.40 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 160:50 K:BB between the two levels.

Cease allowed one run on two hits and five walks while striking out six over 5.2 innings for Double-A Birmingham on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Cease ran a scoreless streak to 24 innings before permitting a second-inning run. The 22-year-old right-hander has produced better results at Double-A than he did in his previous stop at High-A Winston-Salem, although command remains a weakness. He's up to a career-high 118 innings and is on schedule to reach Triple-A next season. If Cease avoids injury, he should be part of the White Sox's rotation in 2020.

Cease threw six scoreless innings for Double-A Birmingham on Saturday, striking out nine while allowing one hit and no walks.
EDGE Analysis
Cease has been rolling for the Barons. He hasn't allowed a run in 23 consecutive innings and is 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA over his last six starts.
