Carlson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

After being acquired from the Cardinals at the trade deadline, Carlson has enjoyed the change of scenery and has a .913 OPS with three homers in 13 games with the Rays. He'll receive a breather Sunday as Kameron Misner gets a start in left field.

Carlson went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, a steal and an additional RBI in Friday's 5-4 victory over Arizona.

The switch hitter picked up his third homer since joining Tampa Bay at the trade deadline with a 379-foot solo shot in the fifth inning. Carlson later plated his 19th RBI of the season with a run-scoring single in the eighth before pilfering his first bag with his new team. Since joining the Rays, the 25-year-old has batted .265 (9-for-34) with four runs scored, eight RBI and 3:10 BB:K while playing in a part-time role.

Carlson will hit the bench after he had started in each of the Rays' last four games while going 3-for-13 with a home run and a pair of walks. Though he hasn't quite moved into a full-time role in the Tampa Bay outfield just yet, Carlson seems to be pushing the struggling Jose Siri for a regular spot. Siri will man center field Sunday, but he had been out of the lineup for two of the past three games, with the Rays facing right-handed starters on both occasions.

Carlson went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Astros.

Carlson took Yusei Kikuchi deep in the opening frame for his first home run since June of last season. After slashing .198/.275/.240 in 59 games with the Cardinals, he needed just two games to hit his first homer as a member of the Rays. Carlson should get plenty of opportunities with the Rays given all their recent moves during the trade deadline.

The Rays acquired Carlson from the Cardinals on Tuesday in exchange for reliever Shawn Armstrong, Ken Rosenthal of The Athleticreports.

Perhaps this success will spur on Carlson as he entered the night slashing .128/.241/.128 over 54 plate appearances.

Though the Cardinals have an opening in the outfield while Lars Nootbaar (oblique) is out indefinitely, the team will get Brendan Donovan (neck) back from a three-game absence Monday. Donovan is starting in left field and will be joined in the outfield by Mike Siani and Alec Burleson, who could continue to play ahead of the switch-hitting Carlson against right-handed pitching.

Carlson is starting in right field and batting eighth for Friday's game against the Phillies.
