Peterson (hand) opened the year on the 7-day DL at Triple-A Gwinnett, MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo reports.
EDGE Analysis
He had surgery in early March to remove the hamate bone in his left hand likely won't return to baseball activities until early May. Everyone is aware of how loaded the Braves' farm system is on the pitching side, but Peterson is one of the few legitimate hitting prospects who are close to the big leagues. He will likely spend most, if not all of 2017 at Triple-A, but could profile in an outfield corner for the Braves in 2018, offering the potential for a .270 average and 15-20 homers in his peak years.

Peterson (hand) was reassigned to minor league camp Wednesday, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 22-year-old entered spring training as a candidate for a bench role with the big league club, but things changed after he broke the hamate bone in his left hand. This ensures that he'll start the season in the minor leagues, but if he can return to form upon his regular season debut, he could be knocking on the door to the big leagues early on.

Peterson had surgery Friday to extract the hook of the hamate bone in his left hand and will be out approximately eight weeks, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Having to undergo hand surgery could not have been the to spring training that Peterson was hoping for. The 22-year-old is coming off a solid season last year with Double-A Mississippi, slashing .282/.343/.431 to go along with 12 home runs and 88 RBI. His recovery timetable slates him to make his return some time around late April or early May.

Peterson replaced Matt Kemp in left field during Saturday's Grapefruit League opener against the Blue Jays and went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
EDGE Analysis
The 22-year-old looked good in 2016 in his first taste of the high minors, hitting .282/.343/.431 in 524 at-bats for Double-A Mississippi with 12 home runs and 88 RBI. Peterson will start the season at Triple-A and isn't yet on the 40-man roster, which could hurt his chances of getting a call-up over the summer, but another solid campaign could put him in line for a bench spot in the majors in 2018. Barring an improvement in his power stroke, however, his eventual fantasy upside remains limited.
