Holmberg was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Friday. Holmberg's second start for the Reds was just as disastrous as his first, as he was clobbered for six runs on five hits and four walks over 2.2 innings against the Braves on Thursday. Acquired from the Diamondbacks as part of the Ryan Hanigan trade this past offseason, Holmberg has struggled at Louisville as well (4.64 ERA, 1.66 WHIP), but the team isn't ready to completely give up on him yet. Daniel Corcino was recalled in the corresponding move and figures to start next Tuesday, with Homer Bailey still shut down with an elbow injury.

Holmberg was hit hard against Atlanta on Thursday, surrendering six runs and five hits in just 2.2 innings. He issued four walks and struck out a pair. Holmberg struggled from the onset, but the third inning was the backbreaker when he gave up five runs. The damage for Holmberg actually could have been worse, but reliever Pedro Villarreal stopped the bleeding by getting a strikeout with the bases loaded. Holmberg was roughed up in his previous start on July 8, so he's been unimpressive in limited action with the big club. Whether or not Holmberg makes another start could depend on the status of Homer Bailey, who is currently on the DL with an elbow injury. Then again, Holmberg was so unproductive Thursday that the Reds might try to find another option if Bailey isn't ready. If Holmberg does get another starting nod, it would likely come at Pittsburgh on August 30.

The Reds called up Holmberg from Triple-A Louisville on Thursday, MLB.com's Mark Sheldon reports. Holmberg will jump right into the Reds' rotation and start Thursday against the Braves. He gave up five earned runs over 2.2 innings in a start with the Reds earlier this season, but he has thrown the ball well lately, posting a 3.34 ERA over his last 10 starts with Louisville.

Holmberg will start Thursday against the Braves, John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. It was widely assumed Holmberg would draw the assignment Thursday after he was scratched from his scheduled start for Triple-A Louisville on Monday, but manager Bryan Price confirmed as much prior to Tuesday's game. Holmberg was knocked around for five runs on seven hits (including three homers) over 2.2 innings against the Cubs in his Reds debut July 8, and he hasn't been much better at Louisville, with a 4.64 ERA and 1.66 WHIP across 17 starts. Holmberg could head back down after the start depending on Homer Bailey's progress in his recovery from an elbow injury.

Holmberg was scratched from his schedule start with Triple-A Louisville on Monday, a sign he'll be called upon to make a spot start Thursday against the Braves, John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Holmberg performed miserably in a spot start in July for the Reds, yielding seven hits (three home runs) and five runs allowed before he was pulled after 2.2 innings. He's hardly an inspiring streaming option this time around, but his presence on the 40-man roster will allow him to pick up the start with the big club.

David Holmberg struggled in his season debut on Tuesday, allowing seven hits and five runs in 2 2/3 innings against the Cubs. Holmberg was recalled to start the second game of the teams' doubleheader for lack of a better option, and he was fortunate to escape with a no-decision. The southpaw served up three home runs among his seven hits allowed, and he walked three more on the evening. He'll be returned to Triple-A Louisville promptly, and it may be a while before we see the 22-year-old again.

Reds manager Bryan Price announced Sunday that David Holmberg will be recalled to start one of the games in Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cubs. The 22-year-old southpaw has pitched better of late, but owns a 5.28 ERA and 1.85 WHIP over 44 1/3 innings at Triple-A Louisville. He should be avoided for fantasy purposes.

David Holmberg is likely to be recalled to start during Tuesday's doubleheader versus the Cubs. The Reds haven't made an announcement regarding who will start, but they tipped their hand when they removed Holmberg from Friday's start at Triple-A Louisville after just 50 pitches (and no runs allowed). The left-hander holds a 1.21 ERA over his last four starts for Louisville.
