While it's good to see that the 21-year-old will be able to continue his career, the lengthy absence provides a second massive hurdle to overcome in his development. Dahl, who is widely viewed as one of the top outfield prospects in the minors, was previously limited to just 10 games in 2013 due to a torn hamstring.

In addition to required surgery on the spleen, Dahl also sustained a broken rib and injuries to his face, nose. He likely has at least a minor concussion as well after having no memory of the collision, according to the outfielder's father, Mike. The combination of those injuries likely means that Dahl, the top position prospect in the Rockies' system, will be sidelined for weeks, if not months. Prior to suffering the injuries, Dahl had just begun to find his hitting stroke at Double-A, where he's batting .269/.296/.379 to go along with three homers and 14 stolen bases.
