Bednar secured the save in Saturday's 12-8 win over the Cardinals, retiring the only batter he faced.
EDGE Analysis
Bednar came on with two runners aboard and two outs in the bottom of the ninth and sat down Ivan Herrera to close out a high-scoring Yankees victory. The right-hander notched his 20th save of the year and third since joining New York, including saves on back-to-back nights this weekend.

Bednar picked up the save Friday against St. Louis, striking out two in a clean ninth inning.
EDGE Analysis
Bednar registered his 19th save of the year and his second as a member of the Yankees, also turning in his fifth scoreless outing in a row. Fellow high-leverage arm Camilo Doval has a poor 6.35 ERA over seven appearances in August, and Devin Williams also owns a pitiful 9.64 ERA across five outings this month. While that does appear to position Bednar as New York's current favorite for saves, he'll continue to have plenty of competition for the closer role that also includes Luke Weaver.

Bednar (3-5) picked up the win Saturday after blowing the save, walking one batter and striking out two over 1.2 scoreless innings in a 5-4 victory over the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
With the Yankees protecting a 4-2 lead, Camilo Doval entered the game in the eighth inning and made a mess, although a pair of errors didn't help matters. Bednar was brought in with one run already across and the bases loaded, and he promptly walked Christian Walker to tie the game before escaping the frame with no further damage. Trent Grisham's solo shot in the bottom of the eighth then put Bednar in line for the win. New York's high-leverage situation remains fluid, to put it charitably, but Bednar's 3.00 ERA and 10:3 K:BB over six innings since joining the team seems to have him at the top of the pecking order for save chances at the moment.

Bednar struck out five batters over 1.2 scoreless innings Wednesday, giving up one hit and two walks, to record his 18th save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
The trade-deadline acquisition collected his first save in pinstripes with the rest of the Yankees' high-leverage crew having seen heavy usage lately -- Devin Williams, Luke Weaver and Camilo Doval all pitched both Monday and Tuesday, forcing Bednar to throw 42 pitches (25 strikes) Wednesday to get the job done. That said, Williams has been struggling again of late, getting tagged for runs in four straight outings and taking two blown saves and a loss in his last three. If he gets removed from the closer role again, Bednar might be the next man up, although Weaver has been very effective of late with a 2.13 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB over his last 12.2 innings. Despite the team's efforts to bring in help, the back of the Yankees' bullpen appears to be just as unsettled as ever.

Bednar earned a hold against Texas on Monday, striking out one batter in a perfect inning.
EDGE Analysis
Bednar got the call in the eighth frame with the Yankees up by a run. He set the side down in order on 11 pitches (eight strikes). This was a much better outcome than in Bednar's team debut Aug. 1, when he allowed two runs on four hits over 1.2 innings. The veteran reliever entered in the seventh frame in that game, so it appears New York has him tabbed for a setup role. That said, Devin Williams blew his second straight save Monday and has yielded at least one run in three straight outings, so the team could shift to Bednar at closer if Williams continues to struggle.

Bednar was charged with a blown save in Friday's 13-12 loss to the Marlins, allowing two runs on four hits and no walks in 1.2 innings. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Bednar didn't leave an encouraging first impression in his team debut, giving up multiple runs for the first time since his May 19 outing versus the Reds. The 30-year-old right-hander should still work with the Yankees' high-leverage group going forward despite Friday's flop -- Bednar owns a 2.09 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 52:8 K:BB over his last 38.2 innings since and including April 19.

The Yankees acquired Bednar from the Pirates on Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bednar had a poor 2024 season and a bad enough start to 2025 that he was sent down to the minors for a while. However, he has rebounded in a major way, permitting just one earned run with a 29:5 K:BB over 23.1 innings covering his last 24 appearances. It's not clear whether manager Aaron Boone would use Bednar, Devin Williams or both to close games. Bednar has an additional year of team control next season.

Bednar earned a save against the Giants on Monday, allowing one run on three hits over one inning.
EDGE Analysis
Bednar inherited a two-run lead when he entered in the ninth frame and just barely managed to hold on for the save. San Francisco put three of the first four batters on base against the closer, but Bednar got Mike Yastrzemski to pop out and Patrick Bailey to ground out to end the contest with just one run on his ledger. That was the first earned run the right-hander has allowed over his past 23 outings -- a dominant stretch in which he racked up 12 saves and posted a 29:5 K:BB across 22.1 innings. Bednar did throw 32 pitches Monday and has appeared three times in the past four days, so it wouldn't be surprising if he's deemed unavailable for Tuesday's contest.

Bednar earned the save in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Diamondbacks, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning.
EDGE Analysis
Bednar was called upon to protect a two-run lead in the ninth and needed just 13 pitches to convert his 16th straight save. In addition to his flawless saves streak, the 30-year-old has now gone 22 straight appearances without allowing an earned run. He owns a 2.19 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 51:10 K:BB across 37 innings this season and continues to boost his trade value ahead of next week's deadline.

Bednar gave up a hit and a walk while striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record his 15th save of the season in an 8-5 win over the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran closer extended his streak without an earned run allowed to 21 appearances and 20.1 innings, a streak that dates back to May 24 and in which he's converted all 11 of his save chances while producing a 0.74 WHIP and 26:5 K:BB. Bednar seems increasingly likely to be on the move at the trade deadline, and his current form will only increase the return from a contender in need of high-leverage reinforcements.
