Stumpf (0-1) was tagged with the loss and his second blown save of the season in Saturday's game against the Twins. He allowed three runs on three hits without retiring a batter.
EDGE Analysis
Stumpf has been pitching reasonably well for the Tigers, but he struggled in this one. Stumpf came on after Alex Wilson took a comebacker off the leg and left with a fractured leg in the eighth inning, and he proceeded to allow three straight singles before getting the hook. All three runners came around to score as the Twins plated eight runs in the inning.

Stumpf has pitched 18.0 innings this season with 16 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.50.
EDGE Analysis
In his second taste of the big leagues, Stumpf is showing improvement from his short stint he had last season with Philadelphia. In 5.0 innings with the Phillies, he gave up six runs and only struck out two. With the increase in production this season, Stumpf might be in line for a bigger role if closer Justin Wilson is traded in the upcoming days.

Stumpf has five strikeouts and has allowed four runs in 5.1 innings this season.
EDGE Analysis
Stumpf's role this season has been as a left-handed specialist, only pitching a full inning or more in three of his nine appearances this year. He's struggled in his role as hitters have gotten to him, being roughed up to the tune of a .381 batting average. Because of his limited role and poor results, it doesn't appear as if the southpaw retains much value in any format at the moment.

Stumpf was recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Stumpf has pitched decently at Triple-A this season, compiling a 3.38 ERA and a 26:5 K:BB over 21.1 innings in relief. He'll provide much-needed depth in a bullpen which only has one other left-handed arm in Blaine Hardy, but likely be used exclusively in low-leverage situations after posting a 10.80 ERA over seven appearances with the Phillies last year.

Stumpf was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
The Tigers weren't able to find room for Stumpf, a Rule 5 draft pick, on their Opening Day roster, but they'll still be able to retain his services after his previous team, the Royals, declined to bring him back. Detroit apparently liked what they saw from Stumpf in spring training, and though he won't join the big club for Opening Day, he'll at least retain a spot on the 40-man roster after re-signing with the Tigers on Saturday. Look for the lefty reliever to spend much of the season with Toledo before potentially pushing for a bullpen role in the second half.

Stumpf rejoined the Tigers on a minor league contract Saturday, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
The left-hander was taken by the Tigers in the Rule 5 draft this offseason, but after he was informed that he wouldn't be on the Opening Day roster, he was offered back to the Royals. Kansas City did not reach a new agreement with him, however, so Stumpf is returning to Detroit. He'll have a spot on the 40-man roster and likely start the season at Triple-A Toledo.

Stumpf cleared waivers Friday and will now be offered back to the Royals, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Stumpf was selected by the Tigers in the Rule 5 draft this offseason after splitting time between the Royals and Phillies last year. Now it appears the southpaw will be on the move again after posting a 4.15 ERA over 8.2 innings of Grapefruit League action. The 26-year-old has shown some potential in minor league action over the past few seasons, so look for some team to give him a chance if the Royals don't want him back.

Stumpf was informed that he will not make the Tigers' 25-man roster out of spring training, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
The hard-throwing left-hander was in the running for a spot in Detroit's bullpen, but a groin issue and a 4.70 spring ERA ultimately sealed his fate and sent him to the minors. That being said, Stumpf should get plenty of opportunities in Triple-A Toledo's bullpen and could find his way back to the big leagues if he shows improvement.

Stumpf allowed two hits and an earned run while retiring just one batter in Thursday's Grapefruit League loss.
EDGE Analysis
The good news here is that Stumpf returned from a groin injury, the bad news is that his spring ERA ballooned to 4.70 in the defeat. The southpaw remains a long shot to make the Detroit bullpen out of camp, but provides solid organizational depth as a hard-throwing lefty. Look for Stumpf to get plenty of opportunities at Triple-A Toledo if he fails to crack the roster.

Stumpf (groin) said Tuesday that he expects to resume pitching soon, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Stumpf was scratched from his scheduled outing Monday with the minor groin issue, but it doesn't look like it will delay him too much in his preparation for the upcoming season. The 26-year-old is vying for a role as a lefty specialist in the Tigers bullpen this spring, though it's more likely he opens the campaign at Triple-A Toledo.
