Hudson and the Diamondbacks agreed to terms on a one-year, $2.7 million deal Friday, avoiding arbitration, Zach Buchanan of AZCentral.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hudson appeared in 64 games last season, with 63 of those appearances coming out of the bullpen. The 28-year-old posted a 3.86 ERA to go with a 1.315 WHIP across 67.2 cumulative innings. He figures to return in a similar role next season, though he did state that he'd like to return to a starting role at some point.

Hudson locked down his fourth save of the year Wednesday, allowing one hit and striking out one over a scoreless inning in a 3-1 win over the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
With regular closer Brad Ziegler away from the team following the birth of his daughter, Hudson was first in line for a save opportunity Wednesday. Hudson's fantasy value remains difficult to project; the hard throwing right-hander has been effective out of the bullpen after returning from Tommy John surgery, but has stated a desire to return to starting in 2016. While he certainly has the stuff to hold down a late innings role, he may make a bid for a rotation spot in spring training next season.

Hudson would like to return to a starting role in 2016, reports Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic.
EDGE Analysis
Hudson has made a nice return from his second Tommy john surgery, tossing 58.1 innings with a 4.01 ERA and 1.35 WHIP and a 58:22 K:BB ratio. There is not a lot of precedent for a pitcher with his injury history going back to starting after relieving for a year, but Hudson notes that he would pursue it only if it's best for the team. Hudson is three years removed from his last season as a regular starter and four years from a 222 inning season in which he posted a 3.49 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 33 starts in 2011.

Hudson (finger) returned to the mound for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rockies, working the ninth inning and giving up one run en route to recording his third save of the season.
EDGE Analysis
Hudson had gone unused over the Diamondbacks' previous four games while dealing with a cut on his pitching hand, but after receiving the time off, manager Chip Hale went right back to him in a save situation. The right-hander typically serves as the setup man to Brad Ziegler, who was presumably unavailable for the save chance after being touched up for seven runs over 2.1 innings the previous two days. Those recent blowups aside, Ziegler appears to be locked in as Arizona's primary closer, so don't expect much dramatic change in Hudson's role down the stretch.

Manager Chip Hale will try to avoid using Hudson (finger) on Friday and possibly Saturday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hudson was removed from Thursday's game with a cut on his pitching hand, so Hale is taking a cautious route with his reliever and trying to avoid using him until the cut is healed. The Diamondbacks have plenty of other right-handed options in the bullpen, such as David Hernandez, Addison Reed, and Josh Collmenter, who could easily bridge the gap until Hudson returns later in the series.

Hudson blew up Thursday, taking the loss against Colorado when he allowed five runs (three earned) on two hits, including a home run, and three walks while recording just two outs.
Hudson's scoreless appearance streak ended at five with this epic meltdown. He has been solid coming out of the pen this year, so this performance can probably be chalked up to a case of Coors Field getting the better of him. He hasn't pitched back-to-back days often as he comes back from two Tommy John procedures, so expect him to get a day or two off to rest.

Hudson picked up the win Wednesday against the Rockies, pitching a scoreless eighth inning and striking out one.
The veteran former starter has pitched well from the pen for the Diamondbacks, especially recently with five consecutive scoreless appearances. He has a 3.06 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with 31 strikeouts in 32.1 innings on the season. If he doesn't return to starting, he could carve out a niche at the back of the bullpen.

Hudson walked one and struck out one during a scoreless ninth inning against the Giants on Sunday to earn his first save of the season.
Closer Brad Ziegler was unavailable after pitching the previous two games, affording Hudson the opportunity to save the game. Ziegler's name is the likeliest to be called for the majority of save situations moving forward, severely limiting Hudson's value as a fantasy reliever.

Hudson allowed a pair of runs, giving up two singles without recording an out in the Diamondbacks' 4-3 loss to Philadelphia on Friday night.
Hudson took over in the seventh inning with Arizona ahead 3-1, but the Phillies erased the lead and went on to win. The takeaway here is that both Hudson and Oliver Perez were used before the ninth inning. The Diamondbacks have at least temporarily removed Addison Reed from the closer's role, but have not really announced who would step in. As it turned out, they didn't have to tip their hand in this one, but with Hudson being used in the seventh inning, the favorites for saves might be down to Randall Delgado or Brad Ziegler. Stay tuned.

Hudson started against the Padres on Sunday but lasted just 3.1 scoreless innings, striking out five and walking two.
The start was his first since 2012, but he failed to make it deep into the game since he appeared in relief just three days prior. Hudson is unlikely to hang on to a rotation spot in the short-term with Archie Bradley on the mend, but could see spot starts down the road if injuries bite the D-backs pitching staff again.
