White Sox signed 1B/DH Dan Johnson to a minor league contract. The deal presumably includes a spring training invite. Johnson, 32, batted just .118 (10-for-84) at the major-league level last year, but his game-tying home run in the final game of the regular season kept the Rays' season alive. He'll try to win a bench spot on Chicago's Opening Day roster.

Dan Johnson has elected free agency. Johnson was outrighted off the Rays' 40-man roster on Thursday despite playing the hero in Game 162 against the Yankees. The 32-year-old should find another gig.

Rays sent 1B/DH Dan Johnson outright to Triple-A Durham. Johnson batted just .118 (10-for-84) at the major league level this season, but his dramatic game-tying home run in the final game of the regular season helped keep the Rays' season alive. The 32-year-old can become a free agent.

Dan Johnson hit the biggest home run of his journeyman career Wednesday, taking Cory Wade deep for a game-tying, solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning in Tampa Bay's eventual Wild Card clinching win. Johnson's only other home run of the season came all the way back on April 8. Set to hit the open market this winter, he's unlikely to be retained.

Rays purchased the contract of 1B/DH Dan Johnson from Triple-A Durham. And right in time for a series against the Red Sox, too. Johnson, who was the Opening Day first baseman, batted just .115 with one home run and a 17/5 K/BB ratio over 78 at-bats before being designated for assignment by the Rays in May. He'll function as a lefty bat off the bench.
