Kimbrel gave up a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to blow his third save of the season during Saturday's 16-inning loss to the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
Kimbrel was called upon to earn a four-out save, and started off by winning a 10-pitch at-bat with Aaron Judge to get the Red Sox out of the eighth inning with a one-run lead. But on the third throw to leadoff batter Matt Holliday in the bottom of the ninth, Kimbrel allowed a monster shot over the Green Monster to blow his second save in the last three attempts. Besides the home run, Kimbrel struck out all three opposing batters in the ninth, bumping his K/9 to 16.2. Interestingly, all three of Kimbrel's blown saves this season have come on home runs to leadoff hitters at the onset of the ninth inning.

Kimbrel allowed a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to blow his second save of the season during Monday's win over Texas.
EDGE Analysis
Kimbrel has converted 23 of 25 save opportunities this season with a 1.23 ERA, 0.52 WHIP and 16.0 K/9, so there's no cause for concern following Monday's hiccup. He simply got beat on a good pitch by a dangerous hitter. While there were no fantasy implications for Kimbrel of fantasy owners, Boston battling back to win in extra innings definitely softened the blow.

Kimbrel tossed a perfect inning with one strikeout to notch his 23rd save Friday against the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
Kimbrel had one of his easier save opportunities, as he came on with a three-run lead, and he easily closed the door on the Jays in the 11th inning. In addition to his saves, his 1.01 ERA and 0.48 WHIP make him on of the very best closers in the league.

Kimbrel struck out two batters in a scoreless ninth inning to collect his 22nd save of the season during Thursday's win over Minnesota.
EDGE Analysis
Kimbrel has allowed just two runs over 25.2 innings through 25 appearances since blowing his last save April 20. He's converted 16 consecutive saves since while striking out 46 batters during that stretch, and he now owns a dominant 1.04 ERA, 0.49 WHIP and 16.4 K/9 for the season. Continue to view Kimbrel as an elite asset.

Kimbrel retired the side in order, striking out one in to earn his 21st save in Monday's 4-1 win over the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
Kimbrel keeps rolling along, having converted 21 saves out of 22 opportunities. Boston's bullpen has been one of the better ones in MLB this season, including the work performed by Heath Hembree (double-play grounder) and Matt Barnes (three Ks) on Monday, so getting the ball to Kimbrel has not been a problem this season. A return to the 40-save mark is clearly within reach.

Kimbrel struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Friday to pick up his 19th save of the season in a 2-1 win over the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
He's been scored upon in only three of his 29 appearances so far this season, and Kimbrel's 0.88 ERA, 0.42 WHIP and 58:5 K:BB in 30.2 innings are as elite as it gets. With Boston climbing in the AL East, the team's 29-year-old closer should continue receiving plenty of save chances going forward.

Kimbrel struck out five while working around a walk in 1.1 scoreless innings to record his 17th save of the season in Tuesday's win over the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
Entering with two outs and a two-run lead in the eighth inning, Kimbrel struck out Didi Gregorius but allowed a run to score as the latter reached on a wild pitch. He then walked Chase Headly before striking out Chris Carter and proceeded to strike out the side in the ninth to close things out. Kimbrel has now recorded saves in each of his last five appearances, striking out 13 during that span while lowering his ERA to 1.01 and his WHIP to a microscopic 0.49.

Kimbrel allowed a run on two hits and a walk while striking out three over 1.1 innings to notch is 16th save of the season in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
Kimbrel was brought on in the eighth inning to get out of jam and did that with aplomb, striking out Adam Jones on four pitches with two men on base. He then ran into trouble in the ninth, allowing his first two hits to right-handed hitters all season; righties had been 0-for-47 against Kimbrel. The ninth inning also marked a return of the poor-control version of Kimbrel that popped up so often in 2016. He threw balls on 39 percent of his offerings Saturday compared to his 31-percent rate overall this season. He needed 33 pitches to get his four outs, putting a question to his availability for Sunday's series finale.
