Burnes (3-2) took the loss against the Dodgers on Wednesday, allowing three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out eight batters over seven innings.
EDGE Analysis
Burnes stymied Los Angeles through six scoreless frames and clung to a one-run lead entering the seventh. In that frame, an infield single by Miguel Rojas and a Mookie Betts single that just got out of the infield put runners on the corners, but Burnes was able to strike out Freddie Freeman to get within an out of escaping the jam. However, the veteran hurler threw a slider that got too much of the plate, and Teoscar Hernandez jumped on it for a three-run homer that spoiled Burnes' outing and resulted in a loss. Despite that mistake, Burnes managed his fourth straight quality start, and over that stretch he's compiled a 1.38 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 26:11 K:BB over 26 innings.

Burnes (3-1) allowed two hits and three walks while striking out 10 over six shutout innings to earn the win over the Rockies on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
The 10 strikeouts were a season high for Burnes, who has kept runs off the board in each of his last two starts. He's covered 13 innings in that span while posting a 15:5 K:BB, though the lowly Rockies weren't able to take advantage of the free passes. Burnes is now at a 2.56 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 43:22 K:BB across 45.2 innings over eight starts this season. The 30-year-old's next start is projected to be on the road versus the Dodgers. He posted seven shutout innings against them in his previous outing.

Burnes (2-1) allowed five hits and two walks while striking out five over seven shutout innings to earn the win Saturday over the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Burnes had a start skipped while dealing with shoulder inflammation, but it appears the issue is behind him now. He threw 91 pitches (58 strikes) in his first start since April 30 versus the Mets, covering a valuable seven innings after the Diamondbacks had to dip into their bullpen early Friday. Burnes is now at a 2.95 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 33:19 K:BB over 39.2 innings across seven starts. The lofty walk rate remains a concern, as his 4.3 BB/9 is the highest of his career. Assuming he feels fine after this start, he's projected for a home outing versus the pitiful Rockies in his next turn.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo confirmed that Burnes (shoulder) has been cleared to make his next start Saturday versus the Dodgers at Chase Field, Alex D'Agostino of SI.com reports. "As we anticipated, Saturday's looking really, really good," Lovullo said of Burnes' status.
EDGE Analysis
Burnes wasn't able to start Monday's series opener against the Mets as initially planned after he was diagnosed with a right shoulder inflammation following an MRI on Friday. Though Burnes looked to be at risk of landing on the 15-day injured list, his shoulder responded well to a cortisone injection, and Lovullo relayed that the right-hander checked off the final box in his recovery by completing a bullpen session Wednesday. Despite Burnes receiving a clean bill of health, fantasy managers in shallower leagues may want to tread carefully with him during his upcoming start. In addition to drawing a tough matchup versus a potent Dodgers lineup, Burnes' underlying numbers (4.64 SIERA, career-low 7.9 K-BB%) through his first six starts of the season have been far from the ace-level production that the Diamondbacks would have hoped for after signing him to a $210 million contract this winter.

Burnes received a cortisone injection in his right shoulder this past Friday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The injection was to help reduce the inflammation in Burnes' right shoulder, and he was able to throw off flat ground Monday. He'll have his shoulder closely monitored this week, but he is on track to make his scheduled start against the Dodgers on Saturday. Burnes has logged three quality starts this season with a 3.58 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 28:17 K:BB across 32.2 innings.

Burnes (shoulder) threw on flat ground Monday, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Burnes is not making his scheduled start Monday against the Mets after experiencing fatigue in his right shoulder over his past two outings. It's the first time he's missed a start since he entered the rotation on a full-time basis in 2020. However, Burnes' session of catch Monday appeared to go well, and he and the Diamondbacks remain optimistic he can avoid the 15-day injured list and start this weekend versus the Dodgers.

Burnes will not made his next scheduled start against the Mets on Monday due to right shoulder inflammation, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters Saturday that Burnes had been experiencing fatigue in his right shoulder over his past two starts, and an MRI on Friday revealed inflammation. Monday will mark the first time Burnes has missed a start since moving into the rotation full time in 2020, but the hope is that he won't need a stint on the injured list and will make his next scheduled start against the Dodgers on May 10. Ryne Nelson is the top candidate to replace Burnes on the mound Monday, with the former tossing 68 pitches in relief against the Mets this past Tuesday.

Burnes (1-1) earned the win over the Mets on Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits and five walks while striking out three batters over six innings.
EDGE Analysis
After going winless in his first five starts as a member of the Diamondbacks, Burnes finally got into the win column Wednesday despite being far from sharp. The right-hander threw just 49 of 94 pitches for strikes and issued a season-high five walks, but none of the free passes ended up hurting him -- the only run Burnes allowed came on a Mark Vientos solo homer. Burnes has been troublingly wild this season, as his 4.68 BB/9 is fifth-worst among qualified pitchers and would stand as the worst mark of his career, but he's managed a 3.58 ERA despite also recording a below-average 7.71 K/9. His next start lines up to be a rematch against the Mets next week.

Burnes allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out eight in 5.1 innings Thursday against Tampa Bay. He didn't factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
It was a solid performance overall by the star right-hander. Burnes began the game with three clean innings and yielded a season-low three hits and one earned run, also tying a season high with eight punchouts. He committed a fielding error in the sixth inning, so both of Burnes' runs allowed in the frame were unearned, much to the delight of fantasy managers. Burnes still has work to do to improve his 4.05 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 25:12 K:BB over 26.2 innings (five starts), but things won't get much easier in his next scheduled outing at New York against the Mets.

Burnes didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 13-11 loss to the Cubs, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out three batters across six innings.
EDGE Analysis
Burnes put the Diamondbacks in an early hole by giving up a double to Pete Crow-Armstrong followed by a Carson Kelly home run in the second inning. Fortunately for Burnes (and fantasy managers), those were the only two runs he conceded Friday, as he managed to avoid the 11-run outburst the Cubs' offense would enjoy across the seventh and eighth frames. The 30-year-old righty also was without his typical strikeout stuff yet again and now has fanned just nine batters over 17 innings across his last three starts. He'll look to recapture his previous form during his next start when the D-backs return home to take on the Rays.
