Capel has been one of the Athletics' better hitters this season, especially from an on-base percentage perspective with a .372 mark. He nonetheless finds himself back in the minors, at least for a while.

Capel went 0-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base in a loss to the Yankees on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
The 26-year-old drew the start in right field and came up with the first stolen base since his promotion last Friday. Capel can play all three outfield positions and should see semi-regular playing time as long as Ramon Laureano (hand) is on the injured list.

Capel was holding his own at the big-league level with a .258 average and .347 on-base percentage over 75 plate appearances in the Athletics' first 26 games, but he was a victim of the team's desire to give JJ Bleday a look against major-league arms. Capel's ongoing success with the Aviators is of little surprise, considering the hitter-friendly environment of many Pacific Coast League parks, the 26-year-old's own track record at the highest levels of the minors dating back to his time in the Cardinals' organization and his .308 average and .875 OPS during his first taste of the bigs in 2022. With Bleday offering mixed results in the majors thus far -- he's generated a .214/.319/.398 slash line across 113 plate appearances -- it's possible Capel sees a promotion sometime this summer, if not in September when rosters expand to 28 players.

EDGE Analysis
Capel appeared in 26 games with the Athletics and slashed .258/.347/.318 over 75 plate appearances with no homers along with four stolen bases in seven attempts. The outfielder has been sent down to make room for JJ Bleday with Bleday recalled from Las Vegas in the corresponding move.

The capable outfielder extended his hitting streak to six games and recorded his fourth steal of the season in the process, once again proving to be one of the lowly Athletics' most consistent bats. Capel pushed his average and on-base percentage to .298 and .353, respectively, with Sunday's production, and he continues to be a steady lineup fixture against right-handed pitching.

Capel will draw his fifth start in six games, with his inclusion in the starting nine Wednesday being more noteworthy than usual since the Cubs are bringing a lefty (Justin Steele) to the hill. Though the Athletics would ideally prefer to limit the lefty-hitting Capel to a strong-side platoon role, the loss of the team's top two corner outfielders (Seth Brown and Ramon Laureano) to the injured list looks like it could give Capel a chance to play regularly against both lefties and righties.
