McHugh picked up the save Saturday against the White Sox, striking out one over 1.2 innings without allowing a baserunner.
EDGE Analysis
In classic Rays fashion, McHugh's two appearances this week include one start and one save. He retired all six batters he faced as the opener Monday against the Orioles and retired all five he faced Saturday. He was called on to protect a three-run lead with one out in the top of the eighth, and while he did allow a run to score on a groundout, he was able to kill the White Sox's rally and remained in the game to seal the deal after the Rays stretched the lead to four in the bottom of the frame. The save was the veteran's first of his nine-year career, and while he has an excellent 1.30 ERA on the season, the Rays' creative pitcher usage means he's likely to continue serving mainly in a multi-inning role rather than in the ninth inning.

McHugh will serve as the opener in Monday's game against the Orioles, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
McHugh has earned wins in two of his last three relief appearances, and he's allowed just one unearned run with a 43:4 K:BB and 0.70 WHIP in 30 innings across his last 15 appearances. The right-hander will be able to handle multiple innings if needed, but Josh Fleming is expected to serve as the primary pitcher.

McHugh (4-0) fired two scoreless innings on one hit while striking out three, earning the win over the Red Sox on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
McHugh entered the fifth inning in a tie and didn't allow any runs through the end of the sixth frame after the Rays took the lead. He has been nearly perfect this season, allowing just one earned run in 39.1 innings since May 6. The 34-year-old has a 1.41 ERA and 0.92 WHIP with a strong 12.9 K/9 in 44.2 innings this season.

McHugh fired a scoreless ninth inning during which he allowed a hit and a walk and recorded two strikeouts in a win over the Orioles on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander picked up right where he left off before going on the injured list with arm fatigue, producing his 14th straight scoreless outing. McHugh now has multiple strikeouts in 11 of his last 12 appearances as well, pushing his career-best strikeout rate to 36.7 percent.

McHugh (arm) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Saturday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
McHugh's weekend activation was expected after he threw a 21-pitch bullpen session Wednesday. The right-hander didn't require a rehab assignment prior to rejoining the major-league bullpen, and he'll be in the mix for ninth-inning duties with Pete Fairbanks (shoulder), J.P. Feyereisen (biceps) and Nick Anderson (elbow) sidelined.

McHugh (arm) completed a 21-pitch bullpen session Wednesday without issue and is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of the Rays' weekend series in Baltimore, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Out since July 21 with right arm fatigue, McHugh appears to have performed well enough in his recent throwing sessions for the Rays to feel comfortable bringing him back from the IL without first sending him on a rehab assignment. Before McHugh was shut down, the Rays' closing picture was already in flux, and things have become even more unsettled with the team dealing away Diego Castillo to Seattle and with Peter Fairbanks (shoulder), J.P. Feyereisen (biceps) and Jeffrey Springs (knee) following McHugh to the IL. With that in mind, McHugh could factor into the mix for saves upon returning to the active roster.

McHugh (arm) will throw live batting practice Wednesday and, barring any setbacks, is expected to be activated for the weekend series in Baltimore, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
The slider-spinning righty landed on the IL on July 25 with a dead arm, but he appears very close to rejoining the Rays. McHugh has established himself as a huge asset in Tampa Bay's bullpen, posting a 1.51 ERA and 0.91 WHIP in 41.2 innings this season after not pitching in 2020.

McHugh (arm) threw a bullpen session Friday, the Associated Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran is trying to work back as quickly as possible from a bit of a dead arm. McHugh has been an elite component of a strong Rays relief corps while forging a 1.51 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 12.7 K/9, and the team's official site reports there's hope he can return to action sooner than several fellow sidelined bullpen mates.

McHugh was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with right arm fatigue, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports. The move is retroactive to July 22.
EDGE Analysis
McHugh earned the win Wednesday after delivering two scoreless frames, but he hasn't pitched since while dealing with the arm fatigue. The 34-year-old has no timeline for his return but will be eligible to be activated from the injured list Aug. 1.

McHugh (3-1) allowed one hit and a walk in two scoreless innings, striking out three and earning the win in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran righty has now held opponents scoreless in 13 consecutive appearances, striking out 38 and issuing only three free passes in that 27-inning span. After missing the 2020 season, McHugh has settled in with the Rays and become an incredibly valuable and versatile weapon capable of short starts and high-leverage relief appearances alike. His 1.51 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, three win and five holds make him an intriguing fantasy option for the remainder of the season.
