The Orioles selected Mayo's contract from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
The 22-year-old is joining Baltimore for his first look in the big leagues after Jordan Westburg suffered a fractured right hand Wednesday. Mayo will make his MLB debut Friday in Cleveland, starting at third base and batting eighth. He's one of the top prospects in baseball and has a .301/.375/.586 slash line with 20 homers in 77 games at Triple-A this season.

The Orioles reassigned Mayo to minor-league camp Thursday, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mayo slashed just .143/.188/.214 through his 16 plate appearances this spring. He was able to reach Double-A ball last season, where he posted a .745 OPS across 149 plate appearances, and will likely return there to begin the 2023 campaign.

Mayo hit .247/.326/.456 with 19 homers and five steals across 104 games split between High-A and Double-A in 2022.
EDGE Analysis
After impressing in rookie ball last season, the 2020 fourth-rounder was pretty good in High-A (14 homers and an .821 OPS over 68 games) before largely struggling upon his promotion to Double-A (.729 OPS, 34.5 percent strikeout rate). That said, he gets a pass because of his youth, as this was Mayo's age-20 campaign. Mayo is big and projectable at 6-foot-5, 215 pounds, and he needs some time to grow into his power and learn how to hit upper-level pitching, so it'd be a surprise if he were to make his MLB debut for anything more than a cup of coffee in 2023.

Double-A Bowie reinstated Mayo (back) from its 7-day injured list, and he'll re-enter the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against Akron as the team's designated hitter and No. 6 batter.
EDGE Analysis
Mayo had been out of action since July 1 with back spasms, but he was cleared to rejoin Bowie after recently wrapping up a seven-game rehab assignment between the rookie-level Florida Complex League and High-A Aberdeen. Following his late-June promotion from Aberdeen, Mayo played in only three games for Bowie before the back issue cropped up.

Mayo (back) is expected to move his rehab assignment to High-A Aberdeen on Tuesday, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
After going 0-for-5 with a walk and a run scored over a pair of rehab games in the rookie-level Florida Complex League over the weekend, Mayo is expected to spend the entire week with Aberdeen. If he remains free of setbacks over his next few rehab games, Mayo should be activated from Double-A Bowie's 7-day injured list early next week. Mayo has been on the shelf since early July with the back injury.

Mayo (back) is set to begin a rehab assignment with the Orioles' Florida Complex League team this week, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mayo has dealt with back spasms throughout July, but he's progressed enough to return to game action. He's expected to need a few FCL games before returning to Double-A Bowie.

Mayo landed on Double-A Bowie's injured list with back spasms Saturday, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mayo hadn't played in a week due to the issue, which is now considered serious enough for him to officially exit the roster. The Orioles don't seem concerned about any long-term issues for Mayo, however.

Mayo left Friday's Double-A Bowie game due to back spasms, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mayo had only just joined Bowie on Monday, having hit .250/.326/.479 with 13 homers in 63 games for High-A Aberdeen to open the year. Whether or not his back issue represents anything more than a minor setback for the 20-year-old remains to be seen.

The Orioles promoted Mayo from High-A Aberdeen to Double-A Bowie on Monday, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mayo was one of three top Orioles prospects elevated Monday to Bowie, with outfielder Colton Cowser and infielder Connor Norby also joining him in making the jump from Aberdeen. The 20-year-old third baseman hit .250 with 13 home runs, five stolen bases and a 9.4 percent walk rate across 270 plate appearances at High-A.

Mayo is hitting .230/.298/.466 with 10 home runs, five steals and a 16:48 BB:K through 45 games for High-A Aberdeen.
EDGE Analysis
His power production has kept his line from looking too ugly, but Mayo's been quite streaky. Though he's gone 2-for-5 with a double twice in the last three games, he's still batted just .200/.286/.360 since posting his second two-homer game of the year back on May 19. Though there's certainly reason to be concerned with Mayo's walk rate dropping and strikeout rate rising from last season, he's also sitting on just a .254 BABIP, so there's some bad luck in play here. At just 20 years old, Mayo has plenty of time to get back on track both this year and in the coming seasons as his development continues.
