Chris Stewart hit a two-run homer off Rule 5 pick Kyle Lobstein in the Yankees' 10-3 win over a Tigers split-squad Saturday. It sounds like the Yankees will probably keep Francisco Cervelli and Stewart as their catchers, with Austin Romine off to Triple-A for a while. The light-hitting Stewart finished at .241/.292/.319 with no homers in 141 at-bats as Russell Martin's backup last year.

Chris Stewart is starting at catcher Monday. Eduardo Nunez is serving as the Yankees' DH and Russell Martin is getting the night off in Monday's series-opening tilt against the Rangers. It's the second consecutive time that Stewart has caught staff ace CC Sabathia, but that is probably just a coincidence.

Yankees acquired C Chris Stewart from the Giants for RHP George Kontos. Here's a surprise. Stewart will begin the season on the Yankees' Opening Day roster while Francisco Cervelli will head down to Triple-A. The 30-year batted just 204/.283/.309 over 183 plate appearances with the Giants last season, so it's a little surprising to see the Yankees give up something of value for him.

Chris Stewart is unavailable Tuesday after being hit in the cheek by pitch while catching Tim Lincecum on Monday night. X-rays came back negative, but Stewart is dealing with a sore jaw. Chances are he'll sit out Wednesday's season finale, as well. The 29-year-old backstop is batting .204/.283/.309 with three homers, 10 RBI and a .592 OPS over 183 plate appearances this season.

In his first start in a week, Chris Stewart doubled and ripped a two-run homer Friday in a win over the Rockies. He had been nursing an ankle injury. It's a rare offensive explosion from the light-hitting 29-year-old, as Stewart's two extra-base hits matched the total he had since the middle of July.

Chris Stewart hasn't appeared in a game since injuring his right ankle last Friday night. Stewart is calling the ankle injury a "strain" and acknowledged Monday that he's not sure when he will be able to return. He's batting .199/.278/.267 on the season.
