Gimenez cleared waivers and was outrighted off the Twins' 40-man roster Monday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gimenez appeared in 77 games as the Twins' backup catcher in 2017, hitting .220/.350/.382 with seven homers. The 34-year-old can refuse his outright assignment and become a free agent. He won't serve as anything more than a backup wherever he winds up in 2018.

Gimenez is expected to start Tuesday's game against the Yankees, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gimenez has started just one of the Twins' last five games, as Jason Castro has been the club's preferred option behind the dish. Gimenez will have the chance to improve his weak .211 batting average and .698 OPS when Castro rests Tuesday.

Gimenez is not in the lineup against the Blue Jays on Saturday, Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gimenez will retreat to the bench following two straight starts behind the plate. In his place, Mitch Garver draws the assignment while batting eighth. Since the All-Star break, Gimenez is hitting .217/.280/.348 with one home run and three RBI in 16 games.

Gimenez went 3-for-3 with a solo home run, a double, two RBI and three runs scored during Sunday's win over Arizona.
EDGE Analysis
This was just the sixth start in August for Gimenez, so while it was a noteworthy performance, he isn't receiving enough playing time to move the needle in the majority of the fantasy settings. Additionally, Gimenez's .204/.323/.372 slash line is nothing to write home about.

Gimenez is slashing .196/.323/.366 with five home runs and 11 home runs in 112 at-bats during his first season in Minnesota.
EDGE Analysis
Despite the low average, the on-base percentage is an impressive mark for a backup catcher, actually surpassing the .314 mark of normal starting backstop Jason Castro. Despite the success, as a 34-year-old catcher, Gimenez's age is likely preventing him from more consistent playing time behind home plate.

Gimenez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run during Monday's loss to Boston.
EDGE Analysis
Gimenez also homered Sunday, so the backstop might be kick-starting a hot stretch. While his fantasy value is limited because he doesn't play regularly, Gimenez's .334 wOBA and .767 OPS are decent marks for a catcher.

Gimenez went 1-for-4 with his fourth home run in Saturday's win over Cleveland. He started in left field, his first start in the outfield since September 2011.
EDGE Analysis
With Max Kepler out with a foot injury and Eddie Rosario sick, Gimenez got a rare start in the outfield. He's made 27 appearances in the outfield in his career. Despite hitting .209, Gimenez has a decent .735 OPS for a catcher. He's also made six appearances as a relief pitcher in blowouts

Gimenez went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and four RBI during Thursday's victory over the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
Gimenez's generally receives sporadic playing time behind the dish as the backup catcher to Jason Castro. While his output Thursday assisted in the Twins victory, it likely doesn't do much for his fantasy outlook moving forward. Although his showing Thursday boosted his stats, he's still hitting at just a .230/.374/.405 clip this season and will likely remain the team's backup option.

Gimenez is batting .214 with one home run and three RBI from his backup catching spot this season.
EDGE Analysis
The journeyman backstop, who is on his third team in as many seasons, has struggled behind starter Jason Castro this season. His batting average is on pace to be his worst since 2011, when he hit .203 with Seattle. On the plus side, the 2004 draft pick is getting on base at a clip of .368, but he's going to have to do more if he wants to earn more consistent playing time for the division-leading Twins.

Gimenez went 1-for-4 wit his first home run of the season in the second game of Sunday's split doubleheader.
EDGE Analysis
Gimenez is hitting just .200 with a .654 OPS, but there's been no talk of him losing the backup catcher role. His early season slump likely ends any speculation he may platoon with starter Jason Castro, however.
