Chris Carpenter was shaky again on Friday evening, allowing five runs on 10 hits in eight innings of St. Louis' 5-4 loss to the Royals.
Carpenter struck out seven while walking one. He allowed a go-ahead RBI single to Alcides Escobar with two outs in the eighth inning. Now 1-7 on the season, Carpenter needed 124 pitches to complete his eight frames this evening, the most he has thrown since 2001 when he was a member of the Blue Jays.
