Since moving to the Pittsburgh Pirates from the Tampa Bay Rays, Chris Archer has been much worse. In his five games with the Pirates he hasn't pitched more than five innings in any contest. That's due mostly to allowing at least five hits in each of those games. He hasn't thrown a shutout game yet regardless of how many innings he has pitched. Archer is regarded as a great talent, but he has a 6.45 ERA in August. That brings him to a 4.72 ERA on the season. [...]

We're taking a closer look at two names who would be nearly universally owned if they put up their current numbers earlier in the MLB season. The 24-year-old Nick Williams has looked like a hitter for Philadelphia, slashing .264/.332/.454 with 17 long balls in 383 PAs on the season. Of all player profiles, Chris Archer's has to be the most bizarre. His raw stuff and strikeout totals suggest an ace, yet his ERA never seems to match up with metrics such as xFIP.
