Cuthbert was up with the big league club for eight games in early-August, but the depth he provided was ultimately deemed expendable at the time. Now that the rosters are expanded, Cuthbert could see an occasional start against left-handed pitching, but isn't expected to provide significant counting stats down the stretch.

Cuthbert was optioned to Triple-A Omaha, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports. Cuthbert's brief stint with the Royals came to an end Friday after Mike Moustakas was reinstated from the bereavement list. The young third baseman collected five hits in 15 at-bats as a member of the Royals this week, and will now return to Omaha, where he is batting .256 with eight home runs and 33 RBI.

Cuthbert will start at third and bat eighth, according to Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star. Called up to replace Mike Moustakas, Cuthbert will get his first career MLB start after being called up earlier on Monday. He held a .708 OPS in 285 at-bats for Triple-A Omaha in 2015 and is just a temporary replacement until Moustakas returns.

In 25 games with Omaha, he slashed .264/.330/.385 with two homers, but the 22-year-old may still be at least a year away from earning an opportunity in the big leagues.

Cuthbert was promoted to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday. The bump-up was deserved after spending a season-and-a-half at Double-A Northwest Arkansas. After struggling in 64 games last year at the affiliate (.215/.279/.359), Cuthbert displayed a considerable handle of the level in 2014, slashing .276/.342/.420 with a career-best 10 homers and nine steals in 355 at-bats.

He has been hot as of late, hitting .385/.442/.615 during his 10-game hitting streak, and .311/.366/.467 over his last 32 games. Cuthbert has primarily played first base over the past month, but is slowly beginning the transition to second base to see if he can turn into an adequate second baseman, which will give his bat more opportunities to be in the lineup.

Royals prospect Cheslor Cuthbert went 2-for-4 on Wednesday, raising his season line to .272/.337/.420. Cuthbert has been playing first base since Hunter Dozier was promoted, but he will be shifted to second base after he can get more practice. The move would be a solid bump to his fantasy value, particularly if he keeps up his hot hitting. Cuthbert is hitting .438/.471/.688 during his eight game hit streak.
