Chad Qualls told reporters Monday that he feels like he can pitch through his heel injury. Qualls said Sunday that if felt like a "knife was going at" the back of his foot. But that sensation eventually faded, and he should be able to avoid the disabled list.

Chad Qualls is currently sidelined by a right heel injury. Qualls said it feels like a "knife was going at the back of my heel" when he was walking around. There is no swelling in his foot, but the bone is causing him pain. Consider him day-to-day by now.

Chad Qualls won't arrive in Phillies' spring training camp until Tuesday due to personal issues. It's no big deal that he'll be a couple days behind. Qualls didn't pitch well away from Petco Park last season, but he's had a good amount of success in his career and has a shot to be a solid middle relief option in Philly. The 33-year-old inked a one-year, $1.15 million contract late last month.

Phillies signed RHP Chad Qualls to a one-year, $1.15 million contract. Qualls had some scary splits away from Petco Park last year (5.05 ERA in 35 2/3 innings) and posted a 7.32 ERA across 59 innings with the Diamondbacks and Rays in 2010. The Phillies will hope for better out of the 6-foot-5 33-year-old right-hander, but they're unlikely to get it.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that Chad Qualls "has been on Boston's radar all offseason." Qualls was also linked to the Mets earlier this offseason, but they're probably no longer an option after having already added three relievers. Qualls saw his K/9 rate bottom out at 5.2 last season, and he wasn't very good away from PETCO Park (5.05 ERA). But, with a career 3.78 ERA and 1.27 WHIP, he should have no trouble finding a new home.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Mets are interested in free agent reliever Chad Qualls. Jon Heyman of SI.com reported previously that there were two "mystery teams" interested in Qualls, so perhaps the Mets are one of those teams. The 33-year-old right-hander posted a 3.51 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 43/20 K/BB ratio over 74 1/3 innings this past season. The drop in strikeout rate is concerning, and Qualls was much better in Petco Park than on the road, but he wouldn't be a bad addition on a reasonable deal.

Jon Heyman of SI.com hears that there are two "mystery teams" interested in free agent Chad Qualls. It's hard to tell whether Heyman is joking, but we'd imagine Qualls is drawing interest from multiple clubs. The 33-year-old right-hander posted a 3.51 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 43/20 K/BB ratio over 74 1/3 innings this season, though he enjoyed most of his success within the comfy confines of PETCO Park. The Padres declined his $6 million option for 2012 in October.

Padres declined RHP Chad Qualls' $6 million option for 2012. An expected move. Qualls had a pretty good year for the Pads, holding a 3.51 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 74 1/3 innings, though he also missed the fewest bats of his career, posting a 5.2 K/9 rate. He'll be able to catch on as a setup man somewhere.

Padres GM Jed Hoyer revealed on The Darren Smith Show that the team will decline Chad Qualls' $6 million option for 2012. Qualls had a solid year for the Pads, holding a 3.51 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 74 1/3 innings, though he also held a career-low 5.2 K/9 rate. The fact that the expensive option will be declined is no surprise, but he'll have no trouble getting another job somewhere.

Chad Qualls was not traded at Wednesday's deadline. The Padres drew some interest from a couple of teams this week, but weren't able to work out a waiver trade. Qualls will finish out the 2011 season in a Padres uniform.
