Kuhl won't miss a turn through the rotation after he battled a blister on his throwing hand during his most recent start June 30 in Colorado. Since being reinstated from the injured list May 31, Kuhl has gone 2-4 with a 4.55 ERA and 1.28 WHIP across six starts.

He sailed through three scoreless innings before battling a blister. "It started bothering me in the fourth, and then in the fifth, it broke off," Kuhl said. "So I just have like a raw chunk of skin." The timing is poor as Kuhl had won his last two starts, allowing two earned runs in 12 innings. In 2020, he attempted to pitch through a blister injury, only to give up nine earned runs in 2.1 innings against the Royals. Fantasy managers will understandably want to use caution with the righty until he's past his most recent blister issue.

Kuhl (2-5) was handed the loss Wednesday against the Rockies, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks across 4.1 innings. He struck out six.

EDGE Analysis

Kuhl was handed a 2-0 first-inning lead, but the right-hander stumbled in the fourth and fifth innings after beginning the game with three scoreless frames. C.J. Cron wound up being the difference maker as he got to Kuhl for a solo homer in the fourth before adding a sacrifice fly an inning later. Kuhl only threw 82 pitches but wound up exiting after recording just one out in a hectic fifth inning. Kuhl concludes June having allowed 12 earned runs on 20 hits and 12 walks across 25.2 innings. He lines up to make his next start against Atlanta early next week.

Kuhl (2-4) won Thursday's 8-2 game against St. Louis, allowing one run on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts in six innings.

EDGE Analysis

For the second straight start, Kuhl went six innings and allowed only one run. His lone run permitted came in the second, but St. Louis never heavily threatened the 28-year-old righty. His ERA has dropped nearly 1.5 runs from 6.52 to 5.05 over the two outings and he'll look to build on the recent success next week in Colorado.

Kuhl (1-4) picked up the win in Friday's 11-10 victory over Cleveland, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out four.

EDGE Analysis

The Pirates' bullpen nearly gave away the win after the team took an 11-1 lead into the seventh inning, but Kuhl did get rewarded for his efforts in the end. It was the right-hander's second quality start of the season in eight tries, and he'll carry a 5.66 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 27:22 K:BB through 35 innings into his next outing.

Kuhl (0-4) allowed six runs (five earned) on five hits and four walks with two strikeouts in 3.1 innings, taking the loss versus Milwaukee on Saturday.

EDGE Analysis

Kuhl was spotted a four-run lead in the second inning, but he ultimately gave it all back and then some before he was pulled in the fourth. Reliever Clay Holmes allowed an inherited runner to score, which tacked the sixth run on Kuhl's line. The right-hander has had little success in 2021 with a 6.52 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 23:21 K:BB across 29 innings. His next start is expected to be against Cleveland during next weekend's series.

Kuhl wasn't poor on the mound, as his only big mistake was a Jesus Aguilar solo home run in the second inning. In the sixth, the right-hander yielded an unearned run and a sacrifice fly, and that was enough to take his second loss in as many starts. He's pitched to a 5.61 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 21:17 K:BB across 25.2 innings this season. Kuhl lines up for a road start in Milwaukee next weekend.

Making his return from a stint on the IL due to a shoulder injury, Kuhl allowed an RBI single in the first and two more runs in the second before settling down over the next two innings. He's now given up at least three runs in four of his five starts, and he's only managed to finish five innings once. One positive to take away from Monday's outing, however, is that Kuhl did not walk a batter -- he walked 16 over his first 15.2 innings this season. The 28-year-old will carry a 6.41 ERA into Sunday's start against the Marlins.

Kuhl (shoulder) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Monday's start against the Royals.

EDGE Analysis

Kuhl had been on the injured list since April 22 due to right shoulder soreness, but he made a pair of rehab starts and will now return to the major-league club. In his two appearances with Triple-A Indianapolis, the right-hander allowed one run on two hits and three walks while striking out nine in 6.1 innings.

This news doesn't come as a surprise, with general manager Ben Cherington saying Sunday that he expected Kuhl to take the hill Monday in Kansas City. The Pirates have already optioned pitcher Nick Mears to Triple-A to make a roster spot for Kuhl.
