Spiers pitched 2.2 innings in bulk relief Wednesday, allowing two runs on six hits and no walks while striking out four batters.
EDGE Analysis
Spiers didn't actually enter the contest until the fourth inning, as Emilio Pagan was able to cover two scoreless frames as the opener and Sam Moll followed with a perfect inning. When Spiers came into the game, the Reds had already built a 4-0 lead, and they extended that to 7-0 through five frames. That may have given Spiers a bit too much comfort, as he allowed four straight hits resulting in a pair of runs to begin the sixth. The right-hander was at least able to bounce back by striking out the final two batters he faced before exiting the contest having thrown 60 total pitches. Spiers had worked as a traditional starter in his eight previous appearances prior to Wednesday, but it's unclear if he'll move back to that role his next time out or again work behind an opener.

Spiers is slated to work in bulk relief behind opening pitcher Emilio Pagan in Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spiers had started in each of his last eight appearances, but he'll shift to the bullpen for at least one turn through the rotation after he was lit up for eight earned runs over five innings in a loss to the Brewers his last time out Friday. Pagan isn't expected to work more than an inning before turning the game over to Spiers.

In total, the Brewers knocked four extra-base hits off Spiers, who has failed to reach the sixth inning in five consecutive starts. Over than span, he's gone 2-3 with a 6.39 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 28:8 K:BB across 25.1 innings. All three of Spiers' earned runs came via the long ball -- a two-run shot by Matt Chapman in the fourth inning and a solo home run by LaMonte Wade in the sixth. Spiers hasn't been as sharp lately, allowing three or more earned runs in five of his past seven starts. Even still, the rookie has held his own this season, pitching to a 3.59 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 50:11 K:BB across 57.2 innings. Spiers (4-2) earned the win Monday over the Cubs, allowing one hit and two walks over five scoreless innings. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
Spiers was sharp in his first start since July 12 due to a shoulder injury. The rookie gave up a hit to the fourth batter he saw and then pitched the next four innings, only allowing a single walk. He was pulled after 68 pitches due to a likely pitch count in his first outing coming off the injured list. The 26-year-old has a 3.46 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 52 innings this season, he's slated to face the Giants next in a two-start week.

The Reds activated Spiers (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Monday versus the Cubs.
EDGE Analysis
Spiers will rejoin the rotation after missing the last two weeks of action with a right shoulder impingement. The right-hander didn't make a rehab start, so it's possible his workload will be a bit limited Monday. Spiers holds a 3.86 ERA and 41:9 K:BB over 47 innings with the Reds this season.

Spiers (shoulder) will be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Monday's game against the Cubs in Cincinnati, MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spiers landed on the injured list July 13 with a right shoulder impingement but made a quick recovery from the injury. He didn't go out on a minor-league rehab assignment prior to being activated, as the Reds feel comfortable enough with him taking the hill Monday after he checked out fine following a bullpen session Friday. Spiers owns a 3.86 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 41:9 K:BB over 47 innings with the Reds this season.

Spiers (shoulder) had a clean MRI on Saturday, and he is likely to miss only one start, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spiers landed on the 10-day injured list Saturday after notching a victory against the Marlins on Friday, but it appears as though he's avoided a serious injury. The right shoulder issue has been deemed an impingement. Spiers is eligible to return from the IL on July 28, which could line him up to make his next start either in Tampa Bay or at home versus the Cubs.

The Reds placed Spiers on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder impingement Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Spiers notched a career-high nine punchouts over five innings in a win over Miami on Friday, but he apparently hurt his shoulder in the process. The right-hander's move to the IL means he won't be eligible to return until July 28. Cincinnati called up reliever Tony Santillan from Triple-A in a corresponding move, but it's not clear who will take Spiers' spot in the rotation following the All-Star break.

Spiers (3-2) earned the win Friday over the Marlins, allowing three runs on six hits over five innings. He struck out nine.
EDGE Analysis
All three of the runs charged to Spiers came on a Jesus Sanchez homer in the fourth inning that cut Cincinnatti's lead to 7-3. Otherwise, the 26-year-old right-hander was sharp, logging a career-high nine strikeouts while earning his third win in his last four starts. Spiers' ERA now sits at 3.83 with a 1.26 WHIP and 41:9 K:BB across 47 innings this season. With Graham Ashcraft (elbow) out long-term, Spiers will likely stick in the Reds rotation in the second half.
