Gallagher is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Braves.
EDGE Analysis
Gallagher has had the clear starting role behind the plate in Kansas City since the team traded Martin Maldonado to the Cubs, starting five of seven games prior to Wednesday's contest. Meibrys Viloria gets the nod in his absence.

Gallagher is not in the lineup for Friday's game at Cleveland.
EDGE Analysis
Gallagher has alternated starts over the last five games and that trend continues Friday with Meibrys Viloria starting behind the plate. It's not fully clear how playing time will be divided following the departure of Martin Maldonado via trade, but the 26-year-old figures to see increased opportunities, regardless.

Gallagher will sit Wednesday against the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
With Martin Maldonado traded to the Cubs, Gallagher is set to split time with Meibrys Viloria behind the plate. Gallagher would seem to be ahead on the depth chart, as he was the one on the big-league roster since the start of the season, though the exact split remains to be seen. Neither catcher makes for a very appealing fantasy option.

Gallagher will catch and bat ninth Tuesday against the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Gallagher looks to be the primary catcher in Kansas City now that Martin Maldonado has been traded to the Cubs. With a very poor .209/.277/.275 slash line, however, he could find himself in a fairly even split behind the plate with Meibrys Viloria.

Gallagher will start at catcher and bat eighth Wednesday against the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
Gallagher remains the clear No. 2 backstop behind Martin Maldonado and will be picking up just his seventh start of June. Unsurprisingly, Gallagher's spotty playing time hasn't helped his cause at the plate, as he'll enter the series finale with a lowly .426 OPS across 84 plate appearances for the season.

Gallagher will start at catcher and bat seventh Sunday against the Rangers, Joel Goldberg of FOX Sports Kansas City reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gallagher will pick up his 16th start of the season with top backup Martin Maldonado dealing with forearm tightness, which forced his early departure in Saturday's 6-2 loss. Maldonado expects to be good to go following Monday's off day, so Gallagher likely won't be in store for a major boost in playing time in the near future. Gallagher is hitting just .161 over 61 plate appearances this season and probably won't provide much fantasy value even if he ascends into a full-time role at some point.

Gallagher will start at catcher and bat eighth Saturday against the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
Gallagher is picking up just his fifth start of the season, as manager Ned Yost has ridden top backstop Martin Maldonado heavily early on. Unless Maldonado falls victim to injury or is traded, Gallagher probably won't be in store for primary duties behind the plate at any point in 2019.

Gallagher will sit his fifth-consecutive game with Martin Maldonado starting at catcher Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Gallagher is yet to appear in a game as a starter or as a late-inning replacement with Maldonado spending the entire time behind the dish. Gallagher was initially expected to be the starter after veteran All-Star Salvador Perez underwent Tommy John surgery in March, but the Royals elected to go in a different direction after signing Maldonado at the end of spring training. For now, it looks like Gallagher's starts will be few and far between.

Gallagher is no longer expected to be the Royals' starting catcher after the team signed Martin Maldonado on Saturday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gallagher temporarily seemed to be in line for a starting gig after Salvador Perez was ruled out for the season for Tommy John surgery at the start of March, but that role was always contingent on the Royals not bringing in an external option. It's still possible Gallagher could carve out a significant role, as Maldonado is a veteran unlikely to be around more than one year who owns a career 72 wRC+.

Gallagher could start a larger-than-expected number of games this season, as Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that starting catcher Salvador Perez is likely to require Tommy John surgery.
EDGE Analysis
Assuming Perez does indeed undergo the procedure, he'll miss the entirety of the 2019 season. Gallagher currently appears to have an unquestioned role as the next in line, though the Royals could move to bring in another catcher. Gallagher's .206/.250/.302 line last season seems to make that an appealing alternative, though that line did come in a small sample of just 69 plate appearances, so it's possible he has room to improve. Martin Maldonado is the top remaining free agent catcher and could be brought in to split time, though the Royals may be fine with giving at-bats to Gallagher as a younger, in-house option.
