Durbin's spot on the Brewers' Opening Day roster could now be secure after Andruw Monasterio was optioned to Triple-A Nashville, Jack Stern of BrewerFanatic.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though he's batted only .227 this spring, Durbin has popped a pair of home runs and also stolen four bases. That he's projected to make the Opening Day roster isn't a surprise, but it's still not clear how much playing time he'll receive. Durbin is in the running to be the team's primary third baseman, but Oliver Dunn and Vinny Capra have had great springs and are also in the mix.

Durbin (forearm) will start at third base and bat eighth in Thursday's Cactus League game against the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Durbin has been sidelined for the past several days after getting hit in the forearm by a foul ball over the weekend, but a few days of rest now has him ready to return to game action. The 25-year-old has slashed .172/.273/.379 with two home runs and seven runs scored this spring, and Thursday will mark the fourth consecutive game he's started at third base rather than second.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy said that Durbin has been out of the Cactus League lineup since Saturday after the 25-year-old infielder was struck in the forearm by a foul ball over the weekend, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Brewers aren't overly concerned about the injury, with Murphy noting that X-rays on Durbin's forearm returned negative. Durbin could have played in Tuesday's Cactus League game against the Cubs if needed, but the Brewers instead opted to take advantage of Wednesday's off day to give him some extra time to heal. If he's able to play Thursday against the White Sox, Durbin will look to build momentum in his bid to win a spot on the Opening Day roster. He's flashed power (two home runs) and speed (two stolen bases) through his first 10 games this spring, but he's hitting just .172.

Durbin went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and a stolen base in Monday's Cactus League loss to the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
Durbin led off Monday's contest and socked his second long ball in four days on the second pitch he saw. Brice Turang figures to be Milwaukee's primary leadoff option against righties when the regular season gets underway, but he will likely hit lower in the order against southpaws, and Durbin -- who, as things stand, could open the campaign as the starting third baseman -- will be among the candidates to hit first those days.

The Brewers acquired Durbin and Nestor Cortes from the Yankees on Friday in exchange for Devin Williams, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Durbin was added to New York's 40-man roster in November in order to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft and was expected to have "a big, big role" in the majors next season, per manager Aaron Boone, but he's instead been shipped out to bring an All-Star closer to the Bronx. The 24-year-old was one of the organization's top prospects and should have an immediate path to playing time in Milwaukee following the departure of shortstop Willy Adames. Durbin features a high-contact, low-power bat and had an .867 OPS with 10 homers, 29 stolen bases, a 13.2 percent walk rate and 9.9 percent strikeout rate in 82 games at the Triple-A level in 2024.
