Cothah enters Wednesday's game having thrown eight innings without allowing an earned run, making him a noteworthy standout in an otherwise decrepit Reds bullpen.
EDGE Analysis
J.J. Hoover allowed another homer Tuesday and has an ERA over 15.00, and manager Bryan Price acknowledged that he's re-thinking the Reds' closer role. Tony Cingrani *probably* is the lead candidate to replace him, but he's also the only lefty in the Reds' bullpen, if that's a consideration for Price. Cotham hasn't been dominant (five strikeouts so far, but had a 16:1 K:BB in spring training), and doesn't throw that hard (92.26 mph average fastball this year). But he's also pitched well otherwise and has been working in the late innings.

Cotham gave up two runs (one earned) Tuesday against the Brewers, but has a chance to win a bullpen spot with the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
In 12 innings Cotham has a 6.00 ERA, but also has a tasty 16:1 K:BB. Short-term results in spring training are notoriously unreliable, but the K:BB is indicative of a real skill.

Cotham was traded to the Reds along with three other players in a deal that saw Aroldis Chapman join the Yankees, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cotham made a couple of appearances with the Yankees late in the season, giving up three runs in six innings upon returning to the majors in September. Prior to that, he put together a sparkling 1.74 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 31 innings with Triple-A Scranton. The 28-year-old could push for a spot in the Reds' bullpen this season, but it doesn't seem as if he'll be placed in enough high-leverage situations to garner much fantasy attention.

Cotham secured his first major league win Monday, requiring just one out to become the pitcher of record in a 4-1 victory over the Rays.
EDGE Analysis
The win presented a nice milestone for Cotham, who is still whittling away at an inflated ERA from a four-run outing on Aug. 17. The 27-year-old Cotham put up impressive numbers at the Double-A and Triple-A levels this season, but appears to be a long-shot to receive high leverage situations or playoff roster spot considerations.

Cotham was officially recalled by the Yankees on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Cotham's last appearance did not go well as he allowed two home runs in two innings out of the bullpen against Minnesota in mid-August. He'll rejoin the Yankees bullpen as rosters expand and he'll likely serve as a low-leverage situation reliever.

Cotham will be recalled by the Yankees when rosters expand Tuesday, Ryan Hatch of The Star-Ledger reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cotham will likely serve in a low-leverage bullpen role in his third stint with the Yankees this year; he appeared in only one game in each of the first two, but should stick around throughout the month of September.
