Goodwin signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Tuesday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Goodwin didn't have to wait long at all for a new suitor after being released by the Pirates on Monday. He's found himself in an ideal situation, as the White Sox are a competitive team that's desperate for outfield help -- Eloy Jimenez (pectoral) and Luis Robert (hip) are both set to miss most of the year, while Adam Engel (hamstring) is still several weeks away from returning to action. However, it remains unclear when Goodwin is the answer to the team's problems. His 101 career wRC+ is certainly good enough for him to be at least a part-time player, but he recorded a career low of 91 in that category last season and failed to make the Pirates out of camp this spring.

Goodwin was released by the Pirates on Monday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
Goodwin will head to free agency after being released from his contract. He split time between the Reds and the Dodgers in 2020, struggling to a .215 average with six homers, 22 RBI and five stolen bases.

Goodwin hasn't officially opted out of his minor-league deal with the Pirates but appears set to do so, as he hasn't been including on any of the team's minor-league rosters, Jake Crouse of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Goodwin failed to earn an Opening Day roster spot with the Pirates after struggling to a .688 OPS in spring training. It would be a surprise he can't find big-league at-bats anywhere this season, however, as his career .250/.317/.455 slash line (101 wRC+) is good enough for at least a bench role, especially given that he can hold his own in center field.

The Pirates reassigned Goodwin to their minor-league camp Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Despite his status as a non-roster invitee, Goodwin looked to be in strong position heading into camp to begin the season in a strong-side platoon role in the outfield. Goodwin ultimately couldn't capitalize on the opportunity, as the Pirates elect to cut him from camp after he submitted a lackluster .688 OPS while striking out 13 times in 35 Grapefruit League at-bats. With Goodwin out of the picture, Anthony Alford now looks on track to begin the season as the Pirates' primary center fielder.

Goodwin went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI against Baltimore on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Playing left field, Goodwin made two first-inning errors and misplayed a third ball hit to him. He has just three hits in 21 spring at-bats and isn't guaranteed to make the Opening Day roster. Goodwin is competing against the likes of Anthony Alford, Dustin Fowler and Jared Oliva for an outfield spot.

Goodwin is expected to compete with Anthony Alford and Jared Oliva for playing time in center field, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
EDGE Analysis
The team might best be served with Goodwin backing up all three outfield spots while occasionally starting. Alford made just four starts with Pittsburgh before suffering a season-ending injury in 2020 and Oliva saw less playing time on a struggling team than one might expect. As a result, spring training performance will likely play a large role in determining who nails down the starting spot.

Goodwin joined the Pirates as a non-roster invitee Thursday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
Goodwin owns a respectable 101 wRC+ over the course of his five-year MLB career, the product of a .250/.315/.455 slash line. He fell a bit below that mark last season in 50 games for the Angels and Reds, hitting .215/.299/.417 while striking out a career-high 32.9 percent of the time. He's joined a roster without many established options, so his ability to play a decent center field should give him a good shot at winning at least a bench role, but his fantasy utility will likely be limited to deeper leagues even if unexpected playing time opens up.

Goodwin was non-tendered by the Reds on Wednesday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
He ended the season on the shelf with a groin injury, and struggled prior to that after getting traded from the Angels to the Reds. The 30-year-old outfielder will likely catch on somewhere, but in addition to coming off a season where he slashed .215/.299/.417, Goodwin's defense has also fallen off since 2018.

Goodwin (groin) is not in Wednesday's Game 1 lineup against Atlanta.
EDGE Analysis
He probably wouldn't have started even if he were healthy, as the Braves are starting southpaw Max Fried. If he is healthy, Goodwin could be an option in Game 2, presumably against righty Ian Anderson.

Goodwin sat out the regular season finale on Sunday with a minor groin injury, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Goodwin is expected to be available for the Reds' playoff series against the Braves, however. But they are facing a left-hander in Max Fried, so he's still unlikely to start.
