Updating a previous report, Valera was diagnosed with a fractured left middle finger Sunday after undergoing follow-up X-rays, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports.
EDGE Analysis
When Valera departed in the top of the fifth inning of Sunday's game against the Yankees with the injury, the Orioles quickly announced that he was only dealing with a bruised finger. The issue proved to be more significant once the Orioles sent him in for scans, however, with the injury likely spelling an end to Valera's season. If that's the case, the 26-year-old will wrap up the 2018 campaign with a .286/.325/.343 slash line across 75 plate appearances, which included no home runs and only one stolen base.

Valera departed Sunday's game against the Yankees with a bruised left index finger, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Valera sustained the injury in the top of the fifth inning, when he was tagged out at home plate on a headfirst slide. The 26-year-old delivered his first extra-base hit of the season before departing with the injury, which doesn't sound like anything too significant. Steve Wilkerson replaced Valera at second base.

Valera was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Valera will add some additional depth across the infield after the Orioles dealt away Jonathan Schoop to the Brewers on Tuesday. Prior to joining the organization earlier this month, Valera hit .172/.273/.172 with four RBI in 20 games with the Dodgers. Don't expect him to play a huge role down the stretch, but he may receive a little playing time here and there as Baltimore looks ahead to the future.

Valera was traded to the Orioles on Wednesday as part of the Manny Machado deal, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Valera appeared in 20 games for the Dodgers this season but struggled to make an impact, hitting just .172/.273/.172. The 26-year-old infielder should have a far easier time carving out a regular role in Baltimore and will have a friendly home park in which to do so. Whether or not he'll head right into the starting lineup or even the big-league roster should become clear soon.
