Brayan Pena went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in the Tigers' 11-7 victory over the Indians on Wednesday. Pena doesn't play much -- Wednesday was just his 14th game of the year -- but when he does, he usually hits. His three-hit game raised his average to .304, and with starting catcher Alex Avila struggling it may mean more at-bats for Pena in the near future.

Brayan Pe¤a went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's loss to the Indians. It's actually the second straight time he's homered in a game he started, though his last start was a week ago. Pe¤a is now batting .256 with the pair of longballs over 11 games this season.

Brayan Pena had a two-run homer and a triple Saturday against the Rays. The Tigers could have and should have done better than Pena as their backup to Alex Avila behind the plate, but they signed him back in December when there were still plenty of alternatives available and never did bring in any competition. He finishes the spring batting .188 with three homers.

Tigers signed C Brayan Pe¤a to a one-year contract. He'll be Alex Avila's backup after Gerald Laird left for Atlanta. Pena is a career .248/.286/.350 hitter across eight major league seasons, as he's never cashed in on the promise he showed in the minors.

Royals designated C Brayan Pena for assignment. Not a surprising move, as Pena was considered a non-tender candidate. The 30-year-old backstop batted .236/.262/.321 with two home runs, 25 RBI and a .583 OPS in 68 games this season while earning $875,000.

Brayan Pena made the most of his opportunity to start on Friday, delivering two hits and a pair of RBI in the Royals 6-3 victory over the Indians. He finished the night 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and two RBI. Pena drew the start with Salvador Perez unavailable while he tends to a hand injury. His RBI single got the Royals on the board in the second inning, then he delivered an RBI double in the eighth, providing valuable insurance. He's hitting .253/.282/.337 with two homers and 24 RBI in limited at-bats on the year.
