Athletics activated RHP Brandon McCarthy from the 15-day disabled list. He'll get the ball in an Independence Day start against the Mariners. McCarthy has been sidelined since May 19 with a stress reaction in his right shoulder, but he's looked good in his rehab appearances and can be safely activated for a plum matchup.

Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) will be activated from the disabled list and start on Monday against the Mariners. McCarthy looked terrific during his rehab appearances and, more importantly, feels healthy. The A's will go with a six-man rotation for the time being, with Trevor Cahill following McCarthy Tuesday and Guillermo Moscoso getting the ball Wednesday. They'll likely reassess things over the All-Star break.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin said he'll have an announcement involving Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) on Friday. When asked Thursday if he sees McCarthy making his next start in the majors, Melvin answered "yes." The 27-year-old right-hander allowed just one unearned run over six innings Wednesday in his latest minor league rehab start with High-A Stockton, so it would be surprising if he isn't activated from the disabled list next week.

Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) allowed one unearned run over six innings Wednesday in his latest minor league rehab start with High-A Stockton. He allowed just four hits while striking out four and walking none. Assuming the A's are pleased with the outing, look for McCarthy to return from the disabled list next week. The 27-year-old right-hander has been sidelined since May 19 with a stress reaction in his right shoulder.

Brandon McCarthy's rehab outing for Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday was rained out. As a result, McCarthy will start Wednesday's minor league contest, where the forecast calls for sunny skies. If all goes well, he could return to the A's mound as soon as next week.

Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) is scheduled to make his second minor league rehab start on Tuesday. McCarthy allowed one unearned run over four innings Thursday with High-A Stockton. The location of Tuesday's start is unclear, but the A's hope to have him back in their starting rotation as soon as July 3 against the Diamondbacks.

Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) could be lined up to rejoin the Athletics' rotation on July 3. McCarthy threw a three-inning simulated game Saturday without any issues. He's scheduled to make a rehab start for High-A Stockton on Thursday and then go up to Triple-A Sacramento for another start that following Tuesday. If both of the outings go well, it appears that McCarthy could be ready to take the ball on July 3 against the D'Backs.

Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) will throw to live hitters Saturday for the first time since landing on the disabled list. He's slated to throw 60-65 pitches. Although the A's haven't revealed their plans for McCarthy after that, it would seem likely that a rehab assignment will be the next step if Saturday's session goes well. The righty is looking at a possible early July return.
