Tigers general manager Al Avila suggested Sunday that Burrows could be promoted to Triple-A Toledo in the near future, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Avila also suggested a promotion for another one of the Tigers' top pitching prospects, Alex Faedo, would be forthcoming, with the right-hander ultimately getting officially moved up from High-A Lakeland to Double-A Erie on Monday. Burrows is still waiting for his Triple-A assignment, but for the time being, he'll continue to ply his trade in the Eastern League. The 21-year-old has posted a 3.34 ERA and 52:24 K:BB across 64.2 innings with Erie this season.

Burrows finished 2017 at Double-A, where he had mixed results across 76.1 innings. His overall 4.72 ERA and 1.47 WHIP don't look great, but he got better as he went along and also saw his strikeout rate tick up. The Tigers likely want to see Burrows, who was a 2015 first-round pick, sustain some success at the level before moving him up to Triple-A.

Burrows, 20, has fanned 31 batters over his last 22 innings for Double-A Erie.

EDGE Analysis

After a rough start at Double-A, Burrows has allowed three earned runs or fewer in six of the last seven starts at this level. His control has been much better of late, as he has walked just six batters over the aforementioned recent 22 inning stretch. Burrows remains one of the younger hurlers at this level, and with three quality pitches at his disposal he has emerged as arguably the top pitching prospect for the Tigers.

Burrows, 20, was promoted to Double-A Erie and will start Tuesday's game against New Hampshire. He posted a 1.23 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 62:11 K:BB in 58.2 innings at High-A.

EDGE Analysis

Once seen as a likely back-end starter, Burrows' mid-90s fastball has emerged as a plus offering to go with a quality curveball and useful changeup. He will be one of the youngest starting pitchers at Double-A, so if he continues to dominate in the upper levels, dynasty league owners can begin to fully buy into the idea of him eventually making it as a mid-rotation starter.

Burrows has allowed just two earned runs over his last three starts (13 innings). He has allowed seven hits and four hits while fanning 11.

EDGE Analysis

Burrows has a 3.33 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 92 innings at Low-A. The only shortcoming in his game thus far is his K-rate. The 2015 first-rounder has just 59 strikeouts in those 92 innings. It'd be nice to see more Ks, but he's still a teenager and the rest of his game seems to be developing just fine.

Burrows, 19, is dealing with a blister on his pitching hand and was placed on the minor league DL on Saturday.

EDGE Analysis

Detroit's 2015 first-round pick has a 3.88 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 43:22 K:BB in 69.2 innings, living up to his billing as a safe, yet unspectacular pitching prospect. He should return in the coming weeks and finish out the season for Low-A West Michigan.

Burrows has impressed so far at Single-A West Michigan, delivering a 2.70 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in seven starts this season.

EDGE Analysis

Burrows strikes out his share of batters, walks almost no one and gives up fewer than a hit per inning. He's doing just fine at age 19.
