Arthur Rhodes will become a free agent Wednesday. Rhodes was designated for assignment by the Rangers in early August after opening the season with a 4.81 ERA and 1.48 WHIP through his first 32 relief appearances. The veteran left-hander has already been linked to the Cardinals and Yankees. He should have no trouble finding a new team.

George A. King III of the New York Post reports that the Yankees are interested in the recently designated for assignment Arthur Rhodes. King notes that their interest is limited to a minor league deal, which is likely all Rhodes would be able to get at this point, anyway. He held a 4.81 ERA and 15/8 K/BB ratio over 24 1/3 innings for the Rangers before being designated for assignment, but Rhodes did hold left-handed batters to a .216 average. The Cardinals also have some interest in the 41-year-old lefty.

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa indicated that the club could have interest in veteran left-hander Arthur Rhodes. Rhodes, 41, was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Tuesday. "He's been a hell of a pro for a long, long time," said La Russa. "He's got all our respect. Does that sound like intrigued?" Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak declined to characterize his interest in Rhodes, but MLB.com's Matthew Leach writes that club has had "significant interest" in the veteran southpaw in the past. Rhodes has a 4.81 ERA and 15/8 K/BB ratio over 24 1/3 innings this season.

Rangers designated LHP Arthur Rhodes for assignment. Rhodes was made expendable this weekend when the Rangers padded the back end of their bullpen with top setup men Koji Uehara and Mike Adams. Rhodes, 41, had a 4.81 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 32 appearances this year for Texas.

Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that the Rangers have been trying to trade Arthur Rhodes but haven't had any takers. Rhodes has been a huge disappointment after signing a $3 million deal over the offseason, posting a 4.34 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over 18 2/3 innings. It's possible the Rangers could end up designating the 41-year-old for assignment if they're unable to find a trade partner, as they need to make room for Darren O'Day's imminent return from the disabled list.
