The Royals placed Benintendi (personal) on the restricted list Thursday.

He'll be formally reinstated from the restricted list for the Royals' first game coming out of the All-Star break July 22 against Tampa Bay. Outfielder Brewer Hicklen was summoned from Triple-A Omaha to temporarily replace Benintendi on the active roster.

Benintendi is unable to enter Canada for the four-game series in Toronto this weekend due to his vaccination status, so he'll be placed on the restricted list Thursday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

The 28-year-old is one of 10 players for the Royals who are unvaccinated and will miss the series against the Blue Jays. Benintendi went 2-for-4 with a run during Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Tigers, and it'll end up being his final game of the season's first half. He is Kansas City's lone All-Star representative, and the next time he'll take the field is for the Midsummer Classic on Tuesday in Los Angeles.

Benintendi isn't starting the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the Tigers.

Benintendi started in the first game of the doubleheader and went 0-for-4 with a strikeout. He'll get a breather while Edward Olivares shifts to left field with Ryan O'Hearn starting in right.

Benintendi went 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, three runs, an RBI and a stolen base in a 7-4 victory against the Astros on Wednesday.

EDGE Analysis

Benintendi once again worked as an offensive catalyst near the top of the lineup, reaching base in all but one of his five plate appearances and scoring three of the team's seven runs. The veteran outfielder finished with his seventh multi-hit appearance over his past nine games, and he's batting a robust .485 (16-for-33) during that stretch. Benintendi has only three homers and two stolen bases on the campaign, but with a .316/.387/.404 slash line, he's built considerable value with the trade deadline less than a month away.

EDGE Analysis

Benintendi has multiple hits in six of his last seven games. He's gone 13-for-26 (.500) in that span, but only one of those hits has gone for extra bases (a double). It's more of the same for the veteran outfielder, who has maintained a strong .314 batting average with a rather pedestrian .780 OPS through 77 contests. He's added three home runs, 31 RBI, 30 runs scored, a stolen base, 12 doubles and two triples while regularly slotting in as the Royals' No. 2 hitter.

Benintendi (knee) will start in left field and bat second Tuesday against the Rangers.

EDGE Analysis

Benintendi was forced out of Monday's 10-4 loss in the series opener after banging his knee during a slide, but his early exit was described as precautionary. His inclusion in the lineup a day later seemingly supports that notion, so fantasy managers shouldn't have much reason to fret about his health moving forward. Benintendi is batting an excellent .299 on the season, but his counting stats (28 runs, 26 RBI, three home runs and one stolen base in 71 games) have been disappointing to this point.

Benintendi exited Monday's 10-4 loss to the Rangers after banging his knee on a slide, but he is expected to be fine moving forward, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Manager Mike Matheny said he took Benintendi out of the game once the outcome was fairly well established in order to get the outfielder some extra rest. However, the injury doesn't appear to be anything serious and it would be reasonable to expect Benintendi in the lineup Tuesday.

Benintendi wasn't involved in any run-scoring plays, but he was one of two Royals to get on base multiple times. He's on a tear lately, going 12-for-36 (.333) in his last nine contests. The outfielder has maintained a solid batting line in 2022, slashing .302/.366/.395 in 287 plate appearances, but his counting stats are lacking. Benintendi has three home runs, one stolen base, 25 RBI and 27 runs scored despite regularly batting second in the Royals' lineup.

Benintendi went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, an additional run scored, a stolen base and a walk in Monday's 6-2 win over the Angels.

EDGE Analysis

Benintendi opened the scoring with a first-inning blast off Angels starter Noah Syndergaard. In the eighth, Benintendi added a single and his first stolen base of the season. Steals have been a noticeable absence on the outfielder's stat line this year -- this was his first attempt of the campaign after going 8-for-17 on the basepaths last season. The outfielder has made up for it with strong hitting, as he's maintained a .298/.363/.396 slash line with three homers, 25 RBI, 25 runs scored, 11 doubles and two triples through 65 contests.

Benintendi isn't starting Wednesday against San Francisco.

Benintendi will get a day off after he went 1-for-16 with a run, two walks and two strikeouts over the last four games. Hunter Dozier will shift to left field while Carlos Santana draws the start at first base.
