Fortunately for Tejada, the injury is to his non-throwing shoulder, perhaps sparing him of a more extended absence. In any event, it's a less-than-ideal setback for the 21-year-old, who had already been struggling at the plate during his repeat season in the Carolina League. After posting a .770 OPS with Down East in 2018, Tejada has seen that mark slip to .701 this season while noticing a nearly five-point uptick in his strikeout rate (32 percent).

Tejeda squared up on the ball well Wednesday, lacing three singles up the middle and driving a fourth-inning offering over the right-center fence for his 19th home run of the season. The 20-year-old has a lot of swing and miss in his game (27.1 percent strikeout rate), but offers above-average power from the left side for a middle-infield prospect. Though he's seen most of his action at shortstop this season, Tejeda isn't regarded as a polished defender and may wind up at second base or center field in the long run.

Tejeda still some issues with contact, but is hinting at a power-hitting middle infielder with double-digit steals potential.

Tejeda, 19, is slashing .233/.302/.373 with four home runs, 30 RBI and eight steals through 86 games for Low-A Hickory.

EDGE Analysis

Tejeda has 105 strikeouts over that span. He'll have an intriguing power/speed combination for a middle infielder once he fills out, though must improve his contact at the higher levels.
