Adam Wainwright (elbow) made 75 throws at a distance of approximately 60 feet on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of last week. Wainwright did three sets of 25 throws each. He hopes to throw from a longer distance prior to Monday's game. The 29-year-old right-hander is currently on the comeback trail from Tommy John surgery and is expected to be ready for spring training next February. His contract includes club options for 2012 and 2013, valued at $9 million and $12 million respectively.

Adam Wainwright (Tommy John) will throw into a pitching net three different times this week. Wainwright has swiftly progressed to a throwing a program and told the St. Louis Post-Disptach on Monday that he wants to return to a major league mound by the end of this season. "My modest goal," he said, "is try to talk them into letting me play on the playoff roster in October." That has little-to-no chance of happening, but it sure sounds like he will have no trouble getting back to 100 percent by the start of spring training next February. He's on a $9 million club option for 2012 and a $12 million club option for 2013.

Adam Wainwright (elbow) is planning to play catch Monday for the first time since his surgery. It's only going to be a light game of catch, but it represents a significant step forward for the Cardinals ace. Wainwright underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery during spring training and is not expected to return until 2012.
