Barrett was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday. Barrett lost his roster spot when the team acquired infielder Asdrubal Cabrera from the Indians, but he will return Monday after tossing 10.1 scoreless innings during his time with Syracuse. In 40 appearances with Washington prior to his demotion, Barrett posted a 3.21 ERA with 43 strikeouts in 33.2 innings, but his control issues (4.8 K/9) figure to keep him in the middle innings.

Nationals recalled RHP Aaron Barrett from Triple-A Syracuse. Barrett allowed one hit and fanned six batters over 4 1/3 scoreless innings during his first stint with the big club earlier this season. Xavier Cedeno was sent down to Triple-A to clear a spot for him on the active roster.

Nationals optioned RHP Aaron Barrett to Triple-A Syracuse. Barrett had allowed just one hit and fanned six batters over 4 1/3 scoreless innings, but the Nationals badly needed a fresh arm for their overused bullpen. The 26-year-old right-hander should be back up soon.

Aaron Barrett whiffed Giancarlo Stanton -- the only batted he faced -- in Thursday's win over the Marlins. Barrett got Stanton to chase a slider off the plate with two outs in the eighth inning in what was a 2-1 game at the time. The 26-year-old has been awfully impressive in the early going, spinning four shutout innings while striking out six and allowing no hits. Nationals manager Matt Williams has shown that he already trusts Barrett to handle a late-inning role.

Aaron Barrett has made the Nationals' bullpen. It'll be the first taste of the majors for Barrett, who registered a promising 2.15 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with 69 strikeouts in 50 1/3 innings last season at Double-A Harrisburg. He'll start out in middle relief but could move quickly into a setup role.
