I have read some of the older posts about players that are no longer in the NFL being available to pick up. It seems that the biggest issue for FleaFlicker is that they want the players old stats to be available for when a team owner wants to look back at their old teams. I like that idea, so could there be 2 new teams added for players to go to? One team could be named Free Agents and the other could be named Retired or Deceased. This would clear up things a lot for team owners, especially people new to football or fantasy football. I personally follow football close enough to know who is on what team, but a lot of folks do not and this would make the game a little better for them.

I will use T.J. Houshmandzadeh as an example just because he is in the player notes this morning. A team owner that doesn't follow the NFL or the Ravens that well, may not know that he is no longer with the team and sign him to their team. Then when he doesn't score any points this week they wonder why, and do a little research to find that he is not on the Ravens anymore, even though it says he is here on the site. If he were added to a team named Free Agents then this would be cleared up right away. The Retired or Deceased team (I think the Deceased should be there out of respect to the players that have passed on such as Gaines Adams, Sean Taylor and Chris Henry....RIP) would strictly be there so that the players that have played in the NFL before have a place to still be accounted for and their stats could be viewed for all eternity.

As I have said before, I am no computer programmer and have no idea how much time or space this would take up. It doesn't sound to difficult to do.

As a programmer, this is a very good suggestion and easy to do. Yahoo eliminates players from showing, but it would be great to see their past performance. And that's why I like it here.

Just add a flag to the database to show if player is Retired, Deceased, Free Agent or Active.

You can keep the stats and treat them like every other player and not have to touch any other code... and the flag will help the user see this.

And also add the flag logic to the live-draft A.I. so Brett Favre won't get autopicked :)

I never really thought about the auto-pick part of it. That is a good addition. Not being able to make a draft is bad enough, but ending up with players on your team that are not even in the league, is a major reason for this change to be made. Thanks KongKillers.

Yeah, Kurt Warner, Randy Moss, and Terrell Owens are still in there. While I can see Randy Moss and T.O. staying just in case a team signs them late, but Kurt Warner is not coming back. Not even in a Kerry Collins type situation with the Colts.

Also, why are recent Hall of Famers Marshall Faulk and Deion Sanders in the database? To be eligible for the Hall, you have to be retired for at least five years. There is absolutely no logical reason for their inclusion here.

I think the reasoning for them being in the data base is so that teams that did have them when they were playing can still go back and access old archived scores. If they remove them, apparently all their old stats and stuff go with them. That is why I suggest that instead of removing them all together, there should be a free agent team or somewhere else for them to go. Them still being listed to their old teams makes no sense to me.
