I have Sproles in a PPR league, which I'm excited about. My question is, with him being a nontraditional RB, how do you project his performance each week? If he plays a weak run defense, does it matter consider he hardly runs the ball? If he plays a weak pass defense, does that matter considering he's a RB?
Depending who your other options are, it may be as simple as "play him always." If you must analyze the matchup, concentrate on how his opponent is in the area where he does the most damage: catching passes.
Ideally, you'd get stats on how the opposing D does against shorter passes and/or passes to RBs. If you can find such detailed breakdowns, please let me know where. ;-)

This is helpful, go here...
nfl.com
Click on "Fantasy Points Against." When you view pts allowed to opposing running backs they actually show catches, receiving yards and receiving tds.
So much for play Darren Sproles, "always." I haven't dropped him, probably wont, but he has been a pain. I drafted him to be my second running back.
