With T.O. gone ( waiting for official call) there will be a change in values for certain players:
Romo- Yes T.O. wasn't his goto guy (Witten was his favorite!) but without him and waiting for Roy to prove himself, you have to give Romo a slight downgrade just cause of the uncertain way the offense is going to run!!
Williams- Went from #2 to #1 WR in Dallas and you have to upgrade just for that!!
Miles Austin- He went from certain downs to being a #2 guy, again have to upgrade just for that.
Witten- With T.O. gone, Jason gets more balls cause he's Romo's favorite target, not in yards but he should get more TD's. With that a little upgrade in value.
All RB's- You have to wait on this one but with no T.O. is Dallas going to be a running team more now??? Until the draft and the pre-season, you have to wonder and plan for that. With that idea ALL RB's in Dallas get a slight upgrade on top of other move that increased certain RB's in Dallas ( the report on Barber going back to the role he had before and Felix touching the ball more)
Bottom line, T.O. is gone, Dallas is all over the news and the 'Boys (or even the NFL) nation sits and waits for what is next!!
picks r diferent its like a mystery candy you dont know what you but with players like choice who is a potential talent and an be somebody in a 2 rb system he can be dangerous that would be too much of a chance especially with the cowboys on edge with TO thing choice to Eagles not goin to happen.
True, but with the COWBOYS trying to 'find their identity' they may just trade away a decent talent for extra draft picks, somewhat similar as to when they traded away Herschel Walker.
REDSKINS lost the 'superbowl', EAGLES (my team) lost to the REDSKINS in the playoffs, STEELERS (who will be relocated to my division) won their division, and COWBOYS under new owner Ricks leadership is fully capable of contending.
You know what I just realized, you WILL get your wish. You'll be taking over the STEELERS team and renaming them BUCCANNEERS while being switched into my division.
You know what they say? "be carefull what you wish for, you just may get it"!!!
Let's just see if you really want what you're getting!!! LOL
Without the distraction of T.O. in the huddle DEMANDING the ball, Romo should be able to throw to open receivers instead of trying to get the ball to T.O. in any kind of coverage. Less interceptions and minus points for his cause.
Roy Williams is almost as good as T.O., and the double teams will often go his way, leaving others open. Williams gets a boost from what he did last year, but I wouldn't go crazy on his upside.
Witten will also see alot of doubles as the teams best receiving option, leaving the COWBOYS 2nd and slot receivers open more often and seeing many more opportunities to make some plays. They get a hefty boost.
The rb's, like you said, will go back to a timeshare type of backfield. After all, Barber and Felix Jones haven't proved they can stay fresh and injury free with any type of sustained workload. I think the entire NFL is leaning to a committee approach at the rb position anyway, ESPECIALLY the way the stars have all been falling as of late.
I do understand your outlook on how you see it JPK but look a little deeper to see how I came up with that value:
Romo- 2 seasons in a row, he has fallen off the horse and really can't blame T.O. for that!! Other WR's dropped the ball just as much! When he came back from the injury, he wasn't the same Romo and thought too much about who and how to throw the ball. Nobody knows what kind of offense Dallas is going to run (Pass or Run) and with the uncertain...... You have to give a slight downgrade from numbers in the past 2 seasons( with those numbers, most yrds and td's were to T.O.)
Williams- Everybody saw him not adjust to the Cowboys way of playing and he looked bad cause of it. With a whole offseason and preseason to adjust, he WILL be just as good, he has no chose, he went to #1 and he has to play as such!!!
RB's- Barber's injury wasn't that bad, he could have still played 1st and goals with no problems!! (He's a power back with no speed!) Felix's injury everybody know that when a runner gets that type, they are pretty much done for the season! I do believe that Dallas is going to the run offense of the 90's and Felix will shine cause of it!!
Bottom line, you can't judge what Dallas does until the preseason!! We as NFL fans can beat it to death but they are the only ones that know how and what they are going to do!!
Yes Rick, you're right. It's ALL speculation at this point, but it helps pass the time sharing our opinions of how it will go down once the season starts.
Romo has been pressing for awhile, but with the departure of T.O. I think he'll be a bit more willing to tuck the ball away and scramble for some yards instead of trying to 'manufacture' some passes to keep egoes happy. His int's should be lower (not forcing so many bad passes), his td's will be similar. He'll even have more points from running, perhaps for a score or 2.
Barber will be more willing to share the workload with Felix now that he's aware 'egoes' will not be tolerated on the team. The "smash & dash", "lightning & thunder" approach to the rb position should be implemented into the COWBOYS system. They have the rb's to do it, and it has been proven to work well AND keep the rb's fresher in the past. The days of Emmitt Smith carrying the full workload are gone. Sorry!!! Even Tashard has proven a very good commodity. Perhaps the EAGLES will trade a pick for him to help out Westbrook. The COWBOYS do owe us that, as we helped them get Felix Jones by trading a 1st rnder to the 'Boys'. You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. LOL
Do you have a job!!!!! If not, go and write for a Dallas newspaper. This stuff in good, no night clubs or foot shootings, just great info that makes sense. You have missed your calling Rick. Once again great stuff, and look forward to more!!!!

We traded DALLAS a first rnder for a couple picks, and still made the playoffs where the COWBOYS did not.

And though I walk through the valley and shadow of death, I will draft no faggots from Dallas
