Why is it called the “taxi squad”? The NFL calls it the practice squad so just curious why FleaFlicker and other dynasty sites call it a taxi squad.

Right! fleaflicker.com

What is a Taxi Squad?

Taxi Squads, also referred to as practice squads, allow owners to place players (typically rookies) in a dedicated section separate from the main roster and the IR (Injured Reserve). Fleaflicker offers a dedicated Taxi Squad section which can be added via League » Settings » Edit Roster Requirements » Custom » Add Taxi Squad.

The Arizona Fall League also calls it Taxi Squad. Developmental roster spot where younger players are only eligible to play in 2 games per week.

the terms are interchangeable - if i recall, the "practice" squads were originally called "taxi" squads in the NFL.

Correct. The owner of the Browns put fringe guys on his taxi company payroll to keep them around back in the 1940s.
