We are starting a dynasty league that will hold 25 players per team every year. We would like to also hold a 4 round rookie draft each year after the initial draft and keep these picks open for trade during the year.

How can we set up the league to keep the 25 players drafted and then allow for a 4 round rookie draft in the upcoming years?

Can we also set it up to allow for these future rookie picks to be traded both during the season and in the off-season?

Thanks!

Set your roster up to start at 25 players. Your future picks will show, but will have 25 rounds (no need to set any keepers if they all are going to be kept prior to the next year). Only allow draft picks for the first four rounds...

When the next year rolls over, you can go ahead and increase your rosters to 29. Keep all the players as keepers on the roster. And then head into Edit Rosters>These are the complete rosters but still draft this season... You'll have 4 picks (or more if you traded for more, but you would have to keep less than 25 players in this instance). The draft picks can be traded during the season and in the offseason, yes.

Thank you! This is a great site by the way!

I have run drafts with a set amount of rounds in dynasty leagues. FleaMod is correct with his answer, but there are a couple of things to watch out for:

--All teams must be at 25 players before the draft. If there are teams with less players due to trades or cuts, temporarily add some retired players from the player pool to those rosters. If you do not, the draft will last longer than four rounds.

--If you are using the e-mail draft option, do not allow unbalanced player trades during the draft. These types of trades will also make for a draft longer than four rounds.

--If there are teams with less than four picks in four rounds, you need to temporarily increase the keeper number and add retired players to the rosters of those teams so that they will end up with 29 players after four rounds.

--As Commissioner, you need to communicate all these potential pitfalls to your membership well before the draft, and be firm in your actions during the process.

Is it possible to set up a 3-4 round rookie draft in July, and then a free agent draft right before the season starts. I'm looking to move my league from nfl.com here to avoid all the manual tracking and drafting we have to do.

Sure! All you have to do is import the rosters and make sure all players on all teams are set as keepers both times. Then increase your roster total both times and it will take your total roster sizes - keepers and = how many draft rounds.

If you need help with your specific league, feel free to contact us at fleaflicker.com and we'll be glad to help. Thanks for moving over!
