My league and I would like to bid on FAs, although we're not drafting until the preseason. We've got $100 offseason WW budgets. How do I accomplish this?

Hello!

To open up free agency prior to your draft in a keeper league, you will need to go to League Settings > Edit Rosters, and select "These are complete rosters" in the bottom Keeper Options section. This will open up the player pool and you can adjust your waiver wire rules as needed. Then, when you are ready to draft, you will go back to League Settings > Edit Rosters, and select "These are complete rosters but still draft this season" in order to start setting up your draft.

One thing to keep in mind is that when you select "These are the complete rosters," the system thinks you have already drafted, and you won't be able to see 2016 picks. They will be retained and you will see them again when you switch to the "These are complete rosters but still draft this season" setting.

To ensure your waiver system is managing things in the preseason, go to League Settings > Edit Transaction Rules and set "Lock Free Agents During Preseason" to Yes. Tweak your League Settings > Edit Waiver Wire Rules as needed to adjust budgets, etc.

Let us know if you have additional questions!

This is awesome.. i had no idea this could be done.. where you could switch back and forth like that..

Our waiver wire is now open, but we can't bid on anybody--it simply adds on a first come first served basis. We want to bid in the offseason. How do we get to do that?

loubonz Fri 3/25/16 12:42 PM

Go to Edit Waiver Wire Rules> Make sure you have Use a Waiver Claim system marked Yes > select Blind Bid Auction

Try that and let me know if it works

seanayb Fri 3/25/16 2:41 PM

It did not

loubonz Fri 3/25/16 2:54 PM

Try going to Edit Transaction Rules > and make sure that 'Lock Free Agents During Preseason' is checked [No]

This should open up that period you described and which Flea confirmed could take place if you are still in the line of steps they described.

seanayb Sat 3/26/16 2:25 PM

It is checked no already

loubonz Sat 3/26/16 6:11 PM

Not sure why Flea hasn't checked in again on you. But if you feel comfortable emailing me your phone# and or.. giving me a Teamviewer ID, i can try to help you out further.

loubonz Sat 3/26/16 6:12 PM

just go to my player profile and send me an email if you want.. i dont mind, dont want you guys to lose out on your league.. Baseball or Football?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you!

If you want your waiver system to be in use during the preseason vs. it being first-come first-serve, you will want the "Lock Free Agents During Preseason" rule (League Settings > Edit Transaction Rules) to be set to Yes.

I will send you an email about this as well -- please reply back to that if this doesn't resolve your issue! Thanks so much.

Was there ever any solution offered for this? I'm running into the same issue and cannot figure anything out. I just want to put the player pool on waivers. It seems simple enough.

seanayb Mon 4/25/16 3:41 PM

It ended up working for me. The only drawback is that, since you have to tell FleaFlicker that you've drafted already, you can no longer trade 2016 draft picks on the site and have to keep track of it elsewhere. We draft late in the preseason.

tjt07 -- If you want to open up free agency prior to your draft in a keeper league, you will need to go to League Settings > Edit Rosters, and select "These are complete rosters" in the bottom Keeper Options section and click Save. This will open up the player pool and you can adjust your waiver wire rules as needed.

The player pool will be open by default to the free agent draft (first-come first-serve). If you want your waiver system to be used instead, make sure the League Settings > Edit Transaction Rules "Lock Free Agents During Preseason" setting is set to Yes.

When you are ready to draft, you will go back to League Settings > Edit Rosters, and select "These are complete rosters but still draft this season" in order to start setting up your draft.

One thing to keep in mind is that when you select "These are the complete rosters," the system thinks you have already drafted, and you won't be able to see 2016 picks. We are in a similar position. We have the full 40 man roster including IDP players and a 20 man IR to simulate the "taxi squad". I understand that for our 8 round rookie draft to work we need to have 8 open spots on our roster so we can draft. My question is can those 8 open spots be on our IR part of our roster or do we need to completely cut off our 20 man "Taxi Squad" (I really hope not) and then cut an additional 8 of our 40 man roster to get to 32 roster spots so we can hold an 8 round rookie draft? Anyone know? Fleaflicker?

FleaflickerT Admin Thu 4/28/16 12:06 PM

Hi Wboz!

The draft will go as many rounds as needed to fill your core roster requirements of 40, so it does not include/count your IR spots. I would recommend having each owner pare to 32 players, set all of them as keepers to ensure they stay in place during your rookie draft, and confirm via your draft board that everyone has 8 picks.

Hope this helps! Please email info@fleaflicker.com if you have additional follow-up questions we can help with.

Can you still trade picks even though you can't see them?

FleaflickerT Admin Wed 2/15/17 12:56 PM

You won't be able to trade this year's picks as the system will think you've already drafted if the player pool is open. Here are some options:

1) The commish can keep track of any approved pick trades and modify the draft order accordingly when that gets set up.

2) The player pool can be temporarily closed in order for trades with picks to be made.

3) Pick trades could be put aside until the player pool is closed and then the trades can all be set up and executed prior to the start of the draft.

We are planning to introduce new functionality in the future that will allow you to do both -- have the player pool open and also still trade the current season's picks. Sorry that we don't have that for you yet!
