Can I just clarify flea flicker settings with regards dynasty leagues?
- under edit keeper rules - when you select the number of keepers is this a maximum number?
- is it possible to make compulsory the number of keepers via the settings or can you only set a maximum?
- my understanding with flea flicker is that number of draft picks = roster sizes - keepers. So if I keep 22 out of 25 then I have 3 draft picks. But how does this work with regards trading future draft picks?
- in one of my leagues I co-commish we have keepers set to 22 and roster sizes of 25. When you go to team > picks why do 25 round picks appear for 2016? Is it because you can't set a minimum number of keepers so in theory a team could keep no players and have 25 picks in next year's draft therefore?
Welcome to Fleaflicker! I hope these answers help along with the help from the community below! Thanks everyone!
-When you select the number of keepers, it does not have to be a maximum number of your roster as a dynasty league would normally do. It's up to you.
-Under Edit Keepers you'll select the number of keepers teams will keep. If they don't keep the max, they'll have extra draft picks for that year.
-Your understanding is correctly. If you have an extra amount of future draft picks, you will be able to trade them but you won't be able to use them in the draft with the software (if you have 26 picks and only 25 roster spots for example). If you didn't keep that 26th pick, you would have it go unused -- owners usually will trade that pick.
-That's correct. A team can keep no players in 2015 and then in 2016 also show their picks. 25 rounds will appear because it goes by keepers selected for the current year right now.
Hi - thanks FleaMod. So if I gained a 2016 2nd and 3rd round picks by trading (for instance) and didn't sell any picks. Then I would have 27 picks (if rosters were 25). Then next year if I wanted to keep 22 out of 25 I would have 3 draft picks and which would be a 1st, 2nd and 2nd. So I would obviously then need to try and sell that extra 3rd round pick as it would go to waste unused otherwise (or even sell my own 3rd, 4th etc. if I knew I was definitely keeping 22 of 25).
Can the commish set a date in the settings where everyone has to decide on their keepers prior to a draft i.e. a keeper lock date? Or is it reliant on the commish to enforce when people set their keepers but the software itself literally allows changes right up to draft start time?
It's reliant on the commissioner to enforce when keepers are set or they can be set up until draft time -- this is when the draft room is initiated (it's 30 minutes prior to the live draft date) or when the e-mail draft starts.
Keepers is a maximum number. There is no setting for a minimum number of keepers. Draft picks, both current and future, are based on your current number of keepers. Smart owners will reduce their number of keepers before and after a draft to take advantage and trade draft picks they know they will not use.
You are correct in that the number of picks a team gets is equal to the active roster max minus the number of keepers set. There is currently no option to cap the number of rounds in a draft, though there are workarounds.
Thanks Rangerdave. When you say 'Smart owners will reduce their number of keepers before and after a draft to take advantage and trade draft picks they know they will not use.' Does that mean you can only trade draft picks if you haven't set them as keepers? So if you plan to keep 25 out 25 you can't trade any picks? But if you reduce your keepers to 23 you can trade your top two daft picks knowing that you won't need them. Then once you've traded them increase the keepers back to 25?
What if you trade and fill your last spot with a player. The last pick you had for that draft goes unused. However, what if a trade comes up before that last pick and you trade a player for a future pick, will the last pick you had come back to you?
Why don't I see any future draft picks when proposing a trade?
Future draft picks may be traded in keeper leagues only. To change your league to a keeper league go to League >> Settings >> Edit Keeper Rules. The length of the draft is determined by your league's roster size and number of keepers set (e.g., if a league has 15 total roster spots and an owner selects all 15 as keepers, the system will show no draft picks for that owner–their roster is already full). In general, a team has [roster size] - [number of selected keepers] draft picks.

Correct on your first paragraph.

That would be a way to do that, yes. At the end of the day, commissioners are in control and have their own rules regarding how owners would do that.
