Connor McDavid was officially activated off the injured reserve Tuesday, so Klinkhammer was sent down in a corresponding move to clear a roster spot. The 29-year-old had just one point in 14 NHL games this season, though he's had more success in limited time in the AHL, notching four points (three goals) in three games on the year.

Klinkhammer skated for 10:40 and racked up two penalty minutes and five hits in his return from the AHL affiliate Condors.

After starting the game on the second line alongside Benoit Pouliot and Jordan Eberle, Klinkhammer was quickly demoted after the line showed no chemistry on the ice. Though "Klink" went scoreless in his return, he threw his weight around quite a bit and played an average game on the fourth line. Though he had a strong outing in Bakersfield with three goals and one assist through four games, don't expect Klinkhammer to find the same success here in the big leagues, where he has yet to surpass the one-goal mark this year.

Klinkhammer, who has tallied a single goal in 13 games with Edmonton this season, will give the Oilers' some additional depth up front, and will occasionally slot into the lineup as a bottom-six forward when called upon.

Klinkhammer seems set to rejoin the lineup Thursday, though the team hasn't officially announced as such at this point. He indicated during an interview Wednesday that he was close after practicing with the team over the last few days, and the veteran winger will finally get a chance to dress for just the ninth time this season. The team should provide an updated lineup during rushes, at which point Klinkhammer's place among the lines should be revealed, though it will almost certainly be among the bottom six.
