Milan Hejduk will reportedly announce his retirement. That's based on a quote Hejduk gave to a Czech Republic daily newspaper. As early as July, Hejduk was interested in signing a new contract, but the unrestricted free agent never agreed to terms with an NHL club. At his height, Hejduk led the NHL with 50 goals in 2002-03 and he played a key role in the Colorado Avalanche winning the Stanley Cup in 2001. He spent his entire career with the Avalanche and ended up with 375 goals and 805 points in 1,020 games.

Milan Hejduk is interested in extending his NHL career. Hejduk is an unrestricted free agent, but the Colorado Avalanche don't appear to be interested in re-signing him. He has spent his entire NHL career with Colorado, but he's open to signing elsewhere. "He wants to keep playing," Hejduk's agent, Jiri Crha said. "If there is any team that really wants to use him for his offensive skills, he still believes he could do it." He had 11 points in 29 games while averaging 13:09 minutes last season.

Milan Hejduk won't dress in Friday's game at Phoenix, but he will play in Saturday's regular-season finale back home versus Minnesota. He has been a healthy scratch for the past two games, as Colorado evaluates some of their younger players. It is likely that Hejduk retires after this season, even though he hasn't made anything official yet, so Saturday's contest could act as a farewell appearance for the long-time Avalanche winger.
