Giroux is expected to miss the next two weeks with a lower-body injury, The Record reports.

Considering that the Flyers' opening game isn't until Oct. 9, Giroux doesn't seem to be in danger of starting the season on the bench. However, he'll miss a substantial part of training camp and may suffer in terms of conditioning. With updates to come, the 26-year-old still seems to be a valuable addition at this point.

Reading between the lines on some of his comments, new Flyers general manager Ron Hextall may go searching for a left winger to play on Claude Giroux's No. 1 unit.

Among the potential free-agent left wingers: Matt Moulson, Benoit Pouliot, and Mason Raymond. Winnipeg left winger Evander Kane, who had 19 goals last season, is also an intriguing trade possibility. Claude Giroux tried to stay positive after the Flyers were eliminated in seven games.

Giroux had three shots on goal in the Flyers' 2-1 loss to the Rangers on Wednesday. "We moved the puck well, had a couple chances," Claude Giroux said. "We have to make sure it goes in the net. It's Game 7. You lose 2-1. It doesn't get closer than that. I think we did a good job staying in the battle. We have a lot of character in this room. For a young team, I think it's great. This is only going to make it stronger." Although he was held off the scoresheet in Game 7, Giroux had six points in the first round.
