Carter has retired from professional hockey, Michael Russo of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Over a 10-year NHL career, the Minnesota native played in 473 games, scored 41 goals and 93 points, and was a member of the Stanley Cup-winning 2006-07 Anaheim Ducks. Carter also played a key role in the Devils' march to the Stanley Cup Final in 2012, though the Kings ultimately lifted the trophy. Having returned to Minnesota in 2014-15 to play for the Wild, Carter began to struggle with injuries and only played 18 games in 2016-17, all of which were at the AHL level.

Carter (shoulder) signed a prorated one-year, two-way contract with the Wild on Sunday, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Carter's career appeared in jeopardy following surgery on his right shoulder last season, but he will receive another shot with the Wild. However, it's unlikely the veteran will make enough of an impact to be worthy of consideration in the vast majority of fantasy leagues. He only tallied 15 points in his best NHL season. The contract suggests he's no longer dealing with a shoulder issue.

Carter (shoulder) will skate with Wild during their pregame skate Friday and is likely to continue practicing with the team for the rest of February, Michael Russo of the Star Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Russo calls Carter's participation in Minnesota's practices "a tryout of sorts" where the team will see if he can keep up physically with the pace of play and will decide if he can be of use for the rest of the season and beyond. If the Wild signed Carter by the March 1 trade deadline, he would be eligible to be on the roster for the playoffs. Either way, Carter has never put up more than 15 points in a season and would be coming off a major shoulder injury, so he shouldn't be on many fantasy owners' radars.

Carter was released from his PTO with the Wild on Sunday, and he'll undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, potentially signaling the end of his career, the Star Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
"There's legitimate concern that this could be the end," Carter said. "Being a realist, I'm 33 years old and went into camp on a PTO. It's a five-month rehab. It'll be difficult to play my way back to the NHL on short notice after really eight or nine months off." Carter has plenty of miles on the odometer, having played for five different clubs over nine years of NHL service time, but he hasn't topped 65 games in a single campaign. The man from White Bear Lake, Minnesota has compiled 93 points (41 goals, 52 assists) in 473 career regular-season contests.

Carter is considered day-to-day with an upper-body injury, Michael Russo of the Star Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Carter is on a professional tryout agreement with the Wild, and his chances of making the team's Opening Night roster continue to dwindle as Minnesota's training camp nears its end. The 33-year-old winger has failed to tally a single point while registering a minus-1 rating over three preseason contests with the Wild during camp, and will likely be released from his tryout agreement before Minnesota's Oct. 13 regular-season opener against the Blues.

Carter signed a professional tryout agreement with Minnesota on Friday, Michael Russo of the Star Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Given a lack of organizational depth on the outside, Carter has a good shot at making the opening day roster. The 33-year-old was hampered by injuries last season, but was also a frequent healthy scratch as he appeared in just 60 contest. The winger is simply not a significant point producer and while he may secure a spot on the depth chart as a gritty bottom-six forward, he will mostly go unnoticed by fantasy owners.

Carter (shoulder) has been medically cleared to play, but will be a healthy scratch against San Jose on Tuesday, Chad Graff of the Pioneer Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Carter was originally out with a shoulder ailment and then missed some action to be with his wife for the birth of their child. Yet, the 32-year-old will remain off the depth chart as coach John Torchetti will go in another direction Tuesday. The benching should not come as a surprise as the winger has netted a paltry two points in his 10 contests prior to injury. If his coach is keeping him out of the lineup, fantasy owners will certainly want to do the same even if he gets back on the ice.

Carter is away from the team to be with his expecting wife and will remain out of the lineup Thursday, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Carter had been sidelined by a shoulder injury, but now it appears the absence may have moved on to a personal matter. The birth of a child doesn't generally keep a player away too long but there's no indication of when he's expected to rejoin the Wild. Even when he returns, Carter doesn't produce enough of the fantasy-relevant stats to be worthy of a roster spot in the vast majority of leagues.

Carter (shoulder) practiced Monday for the first time since suffering his injury a little over a week ago, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
He won't play Tuesday, but it sounds like he could be getting closer to a return.

Carter (upper body) is listed as out for Saturday's game against Denver, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Carter hasn't played since Mar. 19 and it's not clear when he'll return to the ice.
