Vokoun announced his retirement Monday after 15 NHL seasons, Mike Brehm of USA Today reports. The 38-year-old missed all of last season with multiple blood clots in his pelvis, an issue that had dogged him at previous points in his career. Though he's now seemingly healthy, Vokoun's advanced age and history with the blood clots likely made teams reluctant to sign him this offseason. The netminder ends his career with a 300-288-78 record and 2.55 GAA across 15 seasons with the Predators, Panthers, Capitals and Penguins.

Vokoun still wants to play in 2014-15, Vokoun's agent, Allan Walsh, reports. Vokoun has declined a couple contract offers already, and is waiting for the right situation to sign a deal. The 38-year-old netminder spent most of last year recovering from a pelvic blood clot, but is reportedly 100-percent heading into this season, and could be valuable to a team in need of a veteran backup.

Tomas Vokoun wants to play for at least one more season. Vokoun isn't likely to be re-signed by the Pittsburgh Penguins, but he might find some suitors on the open market. He wasn't able to play in the NHL in 2013-14 due to blood clots, but he should be an effective backup goaltender next season if he's healthy.

Tomas Vokoun will likely become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Vokoun missed the entire season with blood clots in his pelvis. The blood clots were discovered in July 2013 and Vokoun, who was on his second and final year of his contract, was forced to the sidelines by the Penguins medical staff until he was allowed to practice during the Olympic break. He will become an unrestricted free agent and it remains to be seen if any NHL team will be interested in the 37-year-old backup.

Tomas Vokoun is serving as the Pittsburgh Penguins' third-string goaltender. Vokoun completed a conditioning stint after missing the season due to a blood clot. If Marc-Andre Fleury struggles in the playoffs, Vokoun might find himself back between the pipes.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled goaltender Tomas Vokoun from the minors. Vokoun was sent to the minors over the weekend and he was 1-1 with the Baby Pens. Look for Vokoun to be the third string goalie behind Marc-Andre Fleury and Jeff Zatkoff in the playoffs. He missed the entire season after he was diagnosed with blood clots in his pelvis during the off-season.

Tomas Vokoun (blood clot) will play between the pipes in the AHL on Friday. Vokoun is on a conditioning stint as he attempts to return after dealing with blood clots in his pelvis. If he's healthy, he might serve as an insurance policy for Pittsburgh in the playoffs.

No matter what happens, there's a good chance that this will be Tomas Vokoun's (blood clot) last season. Vokoun acknowledged as much when he was talking about what role he might have with the Penguins if his current AHL conditioning stint goes well. "That's up to the coaches," Vokoun said. "When we talked back in January, I told them I'm open-minded. Regardless of what happened, I was 90 percent sure it was going to be my last season anyway. I'm here to help. It seems like the coaches and the management want me to be around. Whatever my role is, I'm fine either way." Vokoun is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. He has 300 wins, a 2.55 GAA, and .917 save percentage in 700 career games.

Tomas Vokoun (blood clots) will report to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday to begin a conditioning stint. The future of Vokoun's playing career was put into question after suffering blood clots in his pelvis and even now it's not clear if he'll play in another NHL game. The Penguins plan to test him at the minor league level to see how his body responds and go from there. It's worth adding that the 37-year-old forward is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

It is looking more and more remote that Tomas Vokoun (blood clots) will play in a game this season. Although he has been practising with his teammates and ramping up his workouts he is still a long way from playing and time is running out in the regular season. In addition, the Penguins are happy with Jeff Zatkoff as Marc-Andre Fleury's backup. Pittsburgh coach Dan Bylsma described Vokoun's chances of playing as "just a mere possibility at this point in time". If you have not done so long ago, cut Vokoun now.
