Andy Sutton has decided to retire. Sutton wasn't able to play in 2013 due to a knee injury. He had 38 goals and 150 points in 676 games with the San Jose Sharks, Minnesota Wild, Atlanta Thrashers, New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators, Anaheim Ducks, and Edmonton Oilers. "My NHL career enabled me to not only play the game I love, but to also be a part of something that so many kids dream about growing up," Sutton said. "Throughout my 15 years in the league, I have played for some exceptional hockey teams and have met quality people and friends along the way. None of what I accomplished on the ice would have been possible without the unwavering support of my family, friends, teammates and fans who made playing hockey even more enjoyable."

It appears that the career of defenseman Andy Sutton is over. The 38-year-old was hoping for a final season in Edmonton, but a knee injury during the lockout required his 12th surgery on his knees and his recovery is not going to allow him to play this season. "I just started working out three weeks ago, just rehabbing to see where I can take it, but I think my days on the ice might be numbered," Sutton said. "This was a decision that I didn't make, it was made for me. I had known this was going to be my last year, but I had hoped to go out the way I always saw myself going out. I'd have a little retirement party with my family and the whole shebang, so that's disappointing. I wish that would have worked out, but things work out the way they do for a reason." Sutton had a good NHL career and ended up with 38 goals and 150 points with 1185 penalty minutes in 676 games over 13 NHL seasons. We wish him the best of luck in the future.

Andy Sutton (off-season knee surgery) will likely be gone for the season. Sutton usually picks up penalty minutes for poolies but there is no reason to take him this season as a result of the knee surgery. "We don't believe Andy will be playing this year," GM Steve Tambellini said.

Andy Sutton (off-season knee surgery) will not be ready to start the season with the Edmonton Oilers. Just an FYI as Sutton is just a depth defenseman in Edmonton. There is no word on when he will be able to return so if there was a thought of drafting him, forget about it.

Andy Sutton will undergo knee surgery in a few weeks and he's still wondering if his NHL career is over. He had arthroscopic surgery in early October and this will mark his second procedure on his ailing knee. "It's bone on bone in two spots in my knee," he said. "I have another surgery scheduled in the next few weeks in Santa Monica to fix that defect. And I guess the road to recovery from that is quite long and arduous. So I don't know, this is going to be my 12th surgery, I'm pretty tired of what I've done to my body." Sutton isn't closing the door completely on returning because he would like to continue playing with Edmonton's young group. He said, "I think we'll just leave it open and see how the rehab goes and see how the season shakes out with these labor negotiations."

There have been some disheartening days for Edmonton Oilers defenseman Andy Sutton, who has spent the last few months in and out of doctors' offices, wondering if he's played his last game. Sutton, along with goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin and winger Taylor Hall, were all injured when the NHL locked its doors last month. As a consequence, they are all under the care of the Oilers and they're getting paid. Hall had shoulder surgery last spring. It was assumed he was the only Oilers player who was going to be a question mark if the season opened on time. He isn't. Khabibulin has lingering hip/groin issues from the 2011-12 season while Sutton injured a knee during the summer. He underwent arthroscopic surgery about four weeks ago, but now faces the prospect of more invasive work after it was discovered he fractured the medial condyle of the femur. "It's as if an old knee finally gave way," Sutton, 37, said. He may not play another game in the NHL.

Andy Sutton and Cam Barker were healthy scratches for Edmonton Thursday. Just an FYI. Barker has been sitting a lot this season but Sutton has been injured or suspended on many an occasion this season. He has three goals and 10 points in 42 games this season with 66 penalty minutes. Theo Peckham took his spot in the lineup.

Look for Andy Sutton to be back in the Edmonton lineup Friday after missing last game as a healthy scratch. Cam Barker will sit instead of Sutton. Adjust your lineup accordingly if necessary.

Andy Sutton's newly inked one-year deal is worth $1.5 million. Sutton can earn an additional $250,000 depending on how many games he participates in. This deal also effectively takes Sutton off the trade block, which should please him. "I told (Oilers general manager) Steve Tambellini right after my second suspension (eight games for a head hit on former Carolina Hurricanes winger Alexei Ponikarovsky) two months ago that I wanted to stay here," said Sutton.
